Spurs 2024-25

Mikey Moore the other night for England U19s.

The defending is questionable at best (cones would have posed a bigger problem) but the attacker did alright.

At home vs West Ham, Saturday lunchtime kickoff slot. Son is apparently fit, as is Richarlison; is that a clean bill of health for the entire squad?

Vicario; Porro Romero MvdV Udogie; Bentancur; Kulusevski Maddison; Johnson Solanke Son

Subs: Forster Spence Dragusin Davies Gray Bissouma Sarr Bergvall Moore Werner Richarlison Lankshear, 3 to miss out - probably Davies, Lankshear and either Moore or Werner.

Will be interesting to see which of those 2 are included, I'd pick Moore but the choice will give an insight into where Postecoglu thinks he's up to and where Werner's head is at.

Bissouma in for Bentancur. Son starts, Richarlison on the bench with Moore and Werner - the 3 to miss out are Davies, Lankshear and surprisingly Spence. Gray must be expected to cover both fullback positions.

COYS!

His ban must start soon, better get the most out of him.

Well that were alright. I'd love to see a clean sheet but even when we went behind we controlled the game, ramped up the pressure and once on level terms squeezed the life out of West Ham. What a difference it makes having Son play so high up the pitch - once he was one on one backing the defender into the box a goal was never in doubt.

The only downer is it wasn't 7 or 8, it really could have been. Wan Bissaka and Bowen with credit for West Ham; the rest shod be looking nervously at whether they receive their pay packet, and Kudus should be personally refunding their fans who paid good money to see him be terminally stupid.

The first half was a bit concerning. All the same problems at the back, despite what must have been the mother of all bollockings after Brighton. Sarr for Maddison and West Ham being West Ham made it all fine and very entertaining, and Alkmaar shouldn’t be too much of a challenge midweek, but it’s still not quite right.

Udogie had a really ropey start to the game. Everything went down his side, we had a warning from Kudus from a Bowen cutback even before the almost carbon copy goal. Udogie hasn't looked at it since he went off vs Man Utd, and I must admit I was thinking "here we go again" for a bit. But something clicked with him about 30 mins in, from there on he was the same old player who was rightly regarded as one of the best LBs and so important to how we play.

Evening. Agree with the above from both Zapp and Silas.

Dominated the ball and the space from the off, yet Vic forced into a great save just before West Ham scored - the warning signs were there. Bowen all over Udogie and Kudus getting in behind Porro. Spurs needed to score before HT and thankfully did.

After that, different game and yes, could’ve been 6 or 7. Kulusevski had another stormer. Biss grew into it after a shaky start. The less said about Werner the better.

Glad to finally beat one of our rivals - it had become a ‘thing’.

Gonna take a few more results to erase the memory of Brighton but steps in the right direction. Looking forward to seeing some of the young un’s on Thursday night….COYS

What really pisses me off about Brighton; 45 minutes of dreadful football, without which we'd be on a run of 7 consecutive wins and in the top 5 breathing down the necks of the 4. We are so, so close to being a really exceptional team but those 45 are everything about why we're not yet.

Step in the right direction, I'll take that. Especially since the twats from down the road shat the bed.

Yup - agreed on the Brighton debacle. The dropped points this season have been largely self inflicted but that game was unforgivable.

Am quietly revelling in the Woolwich result 🍺

Im starting to think of Son as the greatest Spurs player of all time....just a pleasure to watch. Jimmy Greaves probably holds that spot at present, but he was before my time...Son will have been at Spurs a decade next season. (Kane serious demotion points for glory hunting)

Greatest of all time is a stretch, but it's very difficult to leave him out of the all time 11. Cliff Jones from the 60-61 team on one side, Son on the other. Chris Waddle on the bench.

If this imaginary team is playing Angeball, with two out-and-out wingers, it would be madness to leave out Bale for Son. Cliff Jones is somewhat before my time.

This imaginary team is going Full Ardiles, audere est facere. It's got Greaves, Kane, Bale, Son, Jones, Gascoigne, Anderton.

Ledley King and Gary Mabbutt are going to have a job to do. Danny Blanchflower in there somewhere too.

Europa League again tonight, games coming thick and fast after the international break.

Tonight 8pm: Home vs AZ Alkmaar
Sunday 2pm: Away at Crystal Palace (PL)
Wednesday 8.15pm: Home vs Man City (League Cup)

A chance to get a look at one that got away tonight, Troy Parrott. Once very highly rated for us, but some less than stellar loans put paid to that. Caught the eye for Excelsior last season, enough to get himself a move to a bigger Dutch team in AZ. When he's good he's very good - 2 hat-tricks last season, and 4 goals in one game this. When he's not so hot, anonymous - apart from those 4, only 1 other goal this season in 10 games.

Expect Son, Kulusevski, Romero, Porro and Udogie to sit this one out - Moore, Bergvall, Dragusin, Gray and Davies instead. Possibly Richarlison for Solanke as well.

Change of scene for me tonight. Down low in the South Stand (as opposed to the Paxton).

Parrott to score is surely nailed on?

Do we not still call it the Park Lane? I only had tickets in the Paxton and the West since NHWL was built (and haven’t been there since the Great Plague), but I’d hope that the Shelf and the Park Lane are still singing their song to each other.

I had an idea that Odobert might be back for this one?

We do tbh, esp when singing PL v Shelf. Don’t know why I named the Paxton (the road doesn’t even exist anymore!).
