Spurs 2024-25

Johnson looks a bit lost to me Son needs better, from the rest, always looked
like one team winning it. I think you will struggle with this manager in charge IMO

Feel genuinely sorry for Coventry, who were far and away the better side and deserved to win at a canter.

This win changes nothing for me. Ange is well out of his depth. Macho posturing and 2nd season winning aside, his football is turgid (incredible isn’t the change in just one year?). Inverted FB’s congesting the MF and possession stats ‘mate’. That’s about it.

Dodged a bullet with that one. I know we have a lot of games to play, but I hate the 8+ changes that comes with the early rounds of the league cup. It always looks and feels disjointed, I'd much rather see more of a plan to rotate players 2 or 3 at a time; the first 11 but with e.g. Gray at RB, Dragusin and Bergvall. Pick and choose games to rest 1 or 2 others, make a squad of 18-19 players rather than a first 11 and a completely different cup 11.

  • Tottenham have conceded 26 set-piece goals in the Premier League since the start of last season, second only to Nottingham Forest's 27.
  • Spurs are looking to avoid losing three of their opening five league games for the first time since the 2008-09 season under Juande Ramos.
  • They have lost seven of their past 11 top-flight matches, only earning points in that run against relegated pair Burnley and Sheffield United, promoted Leicester City and bottom of the table Everton.
  • Spurs are looking to avoid equalling their longest home losing streak in Premier League London derbies: three from August 2003 to April 2004

Should be a nice, fun relaxing afternoon at the Lane 😬😂

Who are you gonna get that will be better than the last 2 dozen mopes: including George Graham but excluding Redknapp, Poch, & Martin Jol

Quick turnaround of games, a chance to put right some of the things that went wrong vs Coventry (but we got away with). Home game vs Brentford.

Vicario
Porro --- Romero MvdV --- Udogie
Bentancur
Maddison Kulusevski
Johnson ----- Solanke ----- Son (c)

Forster, Dragusin, Spence, Gray, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Moore, Werner
Some good young options on the bench, including the special Mikey Moore. Hopefully enough to see out a comfy home win to get the season started properly.

Much more like it. Typically unprofessional to give up a chance and a goal after 22 seconds, but the next 94 minutes were excellent. Relentless pressing winning the ball high up the pitch and quick, purposeful passing to get chance after chance.

Great for Solanke and Maddison to get goals, will do their respective confidence levels the power of good. Brennan Johnson good yet again, his direct running and pace is invaluable and he's rapidly adding a cutting edge.

Much, much better.

Enjoyable game of football yesterday….

3 goal scorers who all needed a goal for a variety of reasons.
Maddison - clear MotM. Honourable mention for Bentancur who was quietly very good.

Thought we might throw it away between 60-75 mins but Spurs should’ve been out of sight by then.

And Mikey Moore got minutes!! 👍🏻

Let’s not get carried away though. Brentford were missing players - their Captain and also Wissa.

Some big games coming up in the league and the start of the European campaign too

Another thing to like about Postecoglu; there's clearly some thought going into future-proofing the team. The moment the 3rd went in and the game was safe, on came Gray, Bergvall and Moore.

Son's powers are clearly on the wane - coming from such a high level he's still a fab player well worth his place on the team, but father time waits for no-one and there will come a point where we have to think about life after our captain (he and Davies are the only regular outfield players over 30, everyone else is 28 or younger). His inevitable decline has to coincide with the rise of Mikey Moore, so great to have him involved.

News no.1: Home draw in the league cup, that's good news. Less good - it's Man City.

News no.2: Thursday night football is back, in the Europa League vs Qarabag.

Romero suspended, Djed Spence not available in this competition as he was the one sacrificed to make the 25 man squad requirements. Will be interesting to see how we mix the first team and squad players, we have to take it seriously but also need to give minutes to some and take them off others.

Personally, I'd go with:

Vicario; Porro Dragusin MvdV Udogie; Gray; Sarr Maddison; Johnson Solanke Moore - mostly first team (none of this "11 changes" nonsense) but a few tweaks here and there.

There are 12(!) subs allowed, so pretty much everyone else available is there. Bissouma, Bergvall, Davies and Werner are probably the others who need minutes, while it would be good to get through without needing Son and Kulusevski.

News No.1 😬
News No.2 - welcome back to European football 👏

I didn’t know there are 12 (!!!) subs allowed. Fuck me. That should at least, play into our hands. Spurs’ Euro forays have been mediocre at best since the CL final. Go strongish and don’t underestimate anyone in this competition…,

COYS

I have my own Euro tournament to play in this weekend - over 45’s Vets in Portugal. As such, I won’t be at the Lane tonight as I have an obscenely early flight tomorrow.

Good luck to those that brave it. Ground half full at best tonight

That's some gig to get, what standard/league has euro trips to Portugal??? I'm only 2 months off 45, sign me up!

It’s my old team who only play the West London Vets League but the tournament has teams from all over the world playing in it.

I didn’t go last year but the lads played against Jude Bellingham’s old man - very good player by all accounts, decent non-league standard.

Fair to say Dragusin's failed his audition to be a bigger part of the first team. He owes an apology to Bergvall (substituted after 7 minutes) but also to the likes of Lankshear and Moore who probably won't get on the pitch now.

Also fair to say that Brennan Johnson has got a real understanding of playing on the right of a front 3. In an era of inverted goalscoring wingers, 3 right footed goals in 3 games with very different finishes; but all in that inside right channel. He looks completely transformed from a few weeks ago, confident and ready to be the main man.

Still a half to play. COYS!

We can still comfortably beat weak teams that have been stuck in grinding traffic jams then :D
Not much comfortable about it, we gave up chances. Almost like "the Chelsea game" - absolute commitment to how we play, even a man down.

Vicario was excellent. Qarabag obviously thought Gray was a weak link, he wasn't. Solanke, his work rate really is exceptional and rewarded with another classic striker's goal. Johnson, superbly taken goal. And at the heart of it all, MvdV was an oasis of calm in amongst all the chaos - what a player.

The negatives - Sarr and Bissouma both had moments of real quality and control, but mixed in with sloppy passing at times and poor decision making. Left the midfield non-existent at times. Son going off injured doesn't help either, not with a 2.5 day turnaround to a trip to Old Trafford.

No Son today, Werner plays away at Man Utd. Youthful but still quality bench.

Vicario
Porro --- Romero MvdV --- Udogie
Bentancur
Kulusevski Maddison
Johnson --- Solanke --- Werner

Forster, Dragusin, Spence, Gray, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Moore, Lankshear

Half time, 1-0, playing against 10 after Bruno Fernandes got the red card he deserves in every single game.

For those not watching - get highlights later for our goal. Johnson gets yet another, but 99.99999% of the goal goes to the maverick genius of van de Ven doing what only he can do. Jan Vertonghen with a turbo fitted.

Van der Vens run was brilliant , like a 200 metre runner full pelt, and the cross couldn't have been more perfect.

Utd, get back in your box and sit down. Weighed, measured, wanting. If that club had any self respect Ten Hag would have been gone months ago, but that creaking sound is the coffin lid being shut.

As for us, near perfect away performance. Brilliant.

Lads - it's United!

Ain't it just 😎
