Best pop star performance in a film

Tom Waits in loads of things.

Nigel Tufnell in Spinal Tap.

Quite a lot of actors started out as musicians - Billy Bob Thornton being one... I guess that doesn't really count though. I thought String in Lock Stock etc was quite good.

"Best Pop Star performance in film" might have to go to Mick Jagger in Performance I think though - not convinced that it was actually a great performance but it's quite a memorable film.

David Bowie was ina vampire film as well ! Catherine Deneuve was also in it but I can't remember the name  Something like "The Hunger" . I quite liked that film !

I love Performance, but it didn't really demand much effort on the part of Mick did it! :D ;)

I think courtney comes under the actor first , muscian later category !

as ever, hernia-boy, you've missed the point. she had a blink-and-you-miss-it background part in s&n.

yeh, it's something like 'The Hunger'

according to imdb, it was called 'famished'.

anyway, what was that film with andi mcdowell and gerard depardieu, where he's trying to get a work permit?

Roger Daltry's not bad in McVicar - but the Who themed acting plaudits have to go to Keith Moon's Wicked Uncle Ernie in 'Tommy' (also a good value cameo in 'Stardust').

That bloke from Fields of the Neph was quite effective in 'Hardware' - although he didn;t have to do much other than wonder about in dry ice looking mean.

Ice T in 'Boys in the Hood' was excellent.

Bowie is fucking awlful in everything except 'the man who fell to earth'.

I notice nobody has mentioned Phil Collins yet. Looking past the cuntish tory voting, music polluting, shit head tax - can he act?

Oooo I loved Hardware.

@bristle-krs anyway, what was that film with andi mcdowell and gerard depardieu, where he's trying to get a work permit? Green Card.

My fav - Stevie Vai in Crossroads......
Bob Geldof in The Wall
Anything with Elvis, especially GI Blues :D

Hi all,

As previously mentioned, Clare Grogan in Gregorys Girl. Just the thought of her dancing to stop herself falling of the earth brings a warm glow - awwww

that's it - a green card. now what was the name of the film?

Tom Waits and John Lurie (The Lounge Lizards) in "Down By Law".

"Your a garbage man aren't you".

Ooo yeah, Kris is fab. He walked and sounded real good in 'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid". I love the scruff the voice, real good!

There's a great bit in a movie that I can't quite remember the name of when Tom Waits is being hassled by his wife... he drawls "Doreen, Doreen, the question queen."

If I could have opinions on the best Elvis Presley performances then a poll may be forthcoming some time today.

I'd guess King Creole - maybe Love Me Tender?

I'd say Jailhouse Rock or King Creole. He went into the army shortly afterwards, and it was never really the same from then on...

Apparently King Creole was Elvis' favourite.

King Creole is a great movie, as in a proper movie, not just the best of a bad Elvis lot.

what's the non-musical Western one, that's good too.

the thing is, he wasn't actually a bad actor by any means, but anyone would have struggled with the shit the Colonel signed him up for.

I hereby mention Garfunkel in that film. (Which i'll now look up the title of)

Here we go:

Bad Timing "I really couldn't accurately describe the contents of this movie. It's about a destructive love affair between a man played by Art Garfunkel and a woman played by Theresa Russel. Russel has attempted to commit suicide. In the hospital they're fighting for her life as Garfunkel is interrogated by a detective (Harvey Keitel) about what really happened. Slowly the real story unfolds and the viewer learns about the darker sides in both characters."

It's a nic roeg film which i didn't realise.
