Best Dog Films

Amores perros has a lot of dogs in it, but it's not that warm and fluffy to watch....

I recall one storyline has a dog lost under the floorboards of an apartment while the owner gets more and more deranged as she listens to it scratching away, yet continuously fails to retrieve her pet from the void beneath her feet.

Erm...watched 'Good Dog' by Viljar Boe recently. Was ill and feverish and had to wonder WTF I had just watched. Was about to follow up with 'The Lobster' but I had already exceeded my weirdness quota for the month (year). Not exactly about dogs...as such.

Mrs SFM turns off any doggie films (esp. Lassie films) as she blubs like a drain if one so much as slightly hurts its paw. It’s not worth the grief and tears.
Seriously I understand that, I watch a lot of psychological thrillers and stuff about serial killers without batting an eyelid, but if there is animal harm in anything I go to pieces.
Even though I love a good thriller/crime drama type thing, if someone has a cat or dog I know that at some point it is likely to be discovered dead at the hands of the mystery perpetrator, and I've been known to turn a film off at the first sign of the main character having a pet.

Two things I cannot watch in any film is sexual violence and animal cruelty - especially if the film maker is aiming for realism. I think it’s the exploitation and imbalance of power that gets to me. I’m quite happy to watch all manner of cartoon-like bloody violence and splatter involving people though 🙂

I second 'Digby. The Biggest Dog in the World.
Again for the early childhood memories (not sure I want to watch it again) & I used to see two of the dogs used in filming as a nipper.

For anyone who has let this one pass you by the I think the whole film is on YouTube but here's a taster.
