Best Non-Dairy Milk?

both my kids only drink oat milk . works well with coffee apparently - this is very important to them.
I can't drink coffee with cow's milk anymore, tastes weird. I do have cow's milk in my regular morning tea as oat milk doesn't seem to work in that, but I have been favouring red bush and oat milk instead of tea lately anyway.

I've not had a lot of oat milk cos it's really hard to find gluten free oat milk, but I've been through pretty much the entire range of possibilities, including those that are blends of a number of ingredients (supposedly to make it more like dairy milk) and I just end up returning to the old faithful Alpro Soya, which I think tastes great in tea, which is my main use for it. My favourite though is Alpro Cashew, but it's really hard to find, and probably extremely calorific compared to the others.

Oatly have dubious heritage, might have been discussed here before, as a Trump supporter has a stake. They're starting to smell a bit Brewdog in terms of ethics to me. I'm happy to be proved wrong though as I'm a big fan of their UHT chocolate "milk".

Yes, I liked their chocolate oat milk, but they did begin to look ethically dodgy so I ditched it.

And let's not even get into the ethics of tea and coffee, which many of are putting our plant milk into (myself included!)...
I did once idly wonder if there was a caffeinated plant you could grow in the garden/allotment, in our climate (not that I have much success with growing things) - and on researching discovered a hardy American species of holly with the offputting name of Ilex vomitoria.

I just move my water really really fast until the molecules heat up and only consume energy from sunlight.

I guess enough sunlight energy will hit you to do that to a mug of water every 140 years or so. Good thing your caffeine addiction is remarkably mild.

Now I've looked up how to make oat milk it seems sensible. How to Make Oat Milk (Perfect Every Time!) | Minimalist Baker Recipes I dunno what oats I've got at the moment tho as I throw away packaging.
I think if your oats are the kind you use for porridge or museli it's all good - steel cut oats that they talk about in the recipe is just what the yanks call coarse oatmeal as far as I can tell. They also seem to be called pinhead oats sometimes too - I don't think these are really processed enough to break down for milk.

Yeah I use rolled oats to make milk, and the same oats for porridge.

I had a free carton of almond milk -Italian 1%, and second ingredient rice. Which I'm drinking straight and in coffee so I'm revisiting this. I don't like cow milk really. And we don't get through enough for it not to be hazardous.

Whenever I see the thread title I think we’re talking about chocolate.

I’ve kind of settled on oat milk.

Excepting dog’s milk, obviously.

Another vote for Alpro Hazelnut. Can’t get enough of the stuff.

When I stopped drinking cow’s milk a year ago, the weirdest thing that happened was that I went off drinking tea. It was perfectly acceptable with non-dairy milk, but I just didn’t want a cuppa any more. WEIRD.

I think I am just about there too. I gave up milk just around the same time as I started drinking decaffeinated coffee and redbush. . . tea just isn't that refreshing anymore. I used to love a cup of tea in the morning. Now I couldn't care less.

I'll have to try hazelnut. What type and where do you get it? Probably nice in coffee right?

I just get Alpro from Sainsbury’s, does the job. Really lovely in coffee. Excellent with Weetabix Banana!

I have not tried Alpro hazelnut, I don't think I have even seen it, but I have been massively underwhelmed by every other Alpro product.
I'll give it a shot next time there is an alpro deal price.

Oatly is def pretty good.

I like to Alpro no sugar versions too. Mmm. Not really missing real milk... aside from the protein in it.
