Beauty products that actually work

I use loads of Ordinary stuff but weirdly didn't get on with the Natural Moisturising Factors. It was fine, but I have quite dry skin though so I want more than fine. I'm using CeraVe atm as a moisturiser and really pleased with it.

Bought some L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Face, Neck & Decollete Lotion recently and pretty impressed with it so far. I bought the face cream a few years back and it was way too thick and gooey. Also, I wasn't as menopausal as I am now. However I am now into the 50-60 age bracket for the target market for it, and this lotion is lovely. Proper plumps me chops up, smooths out and that. Goes on nice, sinks in quickly.

So impressed with it, that I've gone and ordered the night cream AND the eye cream.

I need a new mascara. I like natural rather than thick heavy lashes but I need something that helps the curl. I have long but poker straight lashes. Benefit roller lash really doesn’t do anything and I’m using lash curlers too.

I’ve thought about getting them lifted but am a bit nervous and it’s expensive for a short term solution.

Any recommendations?

It's not a mascara recommendation but lash lifting is awesome. Takes ages to do (it's essentially a perm) but looks great. I do mine quarterly - lift and tint. It's my treat to me

I've been considering a lash lift. What's the in-between stage like? Does the perm drop or grow out?

Can't reconcile cost at the moment but maybe next year :D

Has anyone mentioned Pixi products yet? I got some mini versions for Christmas (think it's called the fast flash facial), just tried them and my skin looks much better than it has in a long time, though it doesn't actually feel very nice - bit tacky. Used the Peel and Polish followed by the Glow Tonic, then Rose Flash Balm.

The Microplane foot file is: Seriously. Good. Dry feet, a few minutes, a gross quantity of dead skin at the bottom of the bath, total winner.

I've been googling this ever since I read about it on here. There's a place near me which does it for £35. I might try it at the same time as having my brows done.

Another question. I need a good shampoo and conditioner. I’ve used head and shoulders shampoo for ages (I don’t have dandruff but do get patches of psoriasis) but my hairdresser told me absolutely not to as it’ll strip my colour. I’ve been buying various conditioners often with coconut or argan oil but my hair has changed and is much finer and more flyaway now.

I bought the ridiculously expensive Tigi salon only stuff when I got my hair done because it was student loan day and I thought I was a Kardashian or something but it’s run out already and I can’t afford it.

I guess I need a shampoo for coloured hair. I’ve bought Aussie but it’s quite drying. Tresemme gave me dandruff and I don’t like how Pantene feels.

It doesn’t need to be the cheapest but not 16 quid for a small bottle either.

Christ, I’ve written more about my hair than I have on my essay due tomorrow. [emoji1]

I buy body shop ginger anti dandruff shampoo at the moment. It’s lovely :)

My daughter gets terrible dandruff Looby and I've recently started using a sulphate free shampoo on her (Maui blue bottle - quite expensive but not Tigi expensive - but there are cheaper sulphate free shampoos) and it's cleared up amazingly. The theory is that sulphates dry your skin because they strip all the oils out in the name of cleanliness.

Anyway I came her to say that the Pixi stuff lives up to its hype  Has made my very dry skin look pretty good. That's the best I can hope for these days.

This. That's what we're doing too, it's made a big difference.

Another vote for ditching SLS here. I have been using the Hask shampoos you can get in Superdrug but they seem to have stopped selling most of the varieties. I'm also thinking of switching to shampoo bars too.

polly I've only ever used the Glow tonic and the Double Cleanse from Pixi - the latter is incredibly bland but leaves me face feeling very lovely.

I like Noughty (from Superdrug) and Kind Natured.

I really like the Pixi Rose Flash Balm. It seems to fill in all the pores :D

No, it’s pretty straight really. I wish it was curly!
I’ll definitely try something that’s SLS free. Thanks all. [emoji4]

Bought some eyelash tonic (I went for the £11.50 DHC stuff), on the strength of wayward bob lavishing praise on hers. I've been putting it on after curling my miniscule lashes of a morning, and before mascara, and I have to say it is actually making them look longer! I think it's a kind of primer for your lashes. I did try putting it on after slap removal, but the smell of it is quite strong right near my eyes, and I didn't wanna take the chance of rubbing my eyes and therefore rubbing it INTO my eyes.

So, I used the ordinary products for a while but i just couldn't be arsed with a routine that involves many products, with so many droppers, so i want something that has everything in. I don't have any problems, I'm just getting older.

Any recommendations for an all in one magic away your age with no effort at all cream?

Something with a mild retinol in it to use at night? The retinol gets converted into Vitamin A in the skin and works slowly and gently to increase your skin cells replacement rate. Vit A is the only ingredient proven to actually fight lines and wrinkles in skin. Stronger stuff works faster but you should start with a weaker concentration. Like this (£20)

I was just coming on to say the same. Almost getting to the end of mine and I must get some more.

You have to be careful with sun though, and use sunscreen religiously from this time of year.

I've just ordered some of the stuff linked to above. When you say be careful with sun - do you mean in general, or specifically when you are wearing retinol?
