Yeah. They want you to sign in. Which those who don’t have accounts can’t do.yes I can't watch twitter videos and (I think it's twitter) can't really see the post either because there's a large banner in front of it.
Nor Facebook SDK posts presumably because of privacy blockers that I've never bothered changing.
Not leaving X at the moment. My feed is pretty good right now, motorcycles, motor racing, humour, photographers, wildlife etc .. absolutely no politics .. Elon Musk being the owner doesn't yet irritate me enough to force me to another provider. If urban decides to cease X embedding I would be a little irritated.
This was definitely also part of my reasoning, too - I don't want the idea that I have (had) an active Xitter account to support Musk's argument that he still has a platform he can sell to advertisers. In my opinion, staying on X/Twitter is a political act.
It is an advertising platform. The advertisers need an audience. The audience needs content. The posters are providing that content (free of charge). Without an audience, there would be no advertisers, and Musk would not profit.
Musk is using the platform to stir up racism and incite racist violence. To use X/Twitter is to enable him to do so.
The effects of our acts in the world can be completely contrary to our beliefs and intentions. This is is such a case.
I spent a couple of weeks pondering my Xitter experience before I decided to bale out. I think that there is zero risk of my reactivating my account, as, by the time I deactivated, just firing up the app was a guaranteed heartsink.I deactivated my account the other day, am now on Bluesky only. Just so much unpleasantness it gets grinding. I had a pretty good feed but people still insist on retweeting annoying pricks on to my eyes.
Last straw was being retweeted Jordan Peterson and Sharkey talking about dragons being real. I have no interest in hearing anything JP has to say. Even Sharkey thought he was too far gone.
Deactivation takes 30 days apparently. Hopefully I'll stay off.
Well, he THINKS he's keeping people in, but in reality he's giving the people already in and posting an excellent reason to post somewhere else, where their posts CAN be seen without having to log in. It's quite entertaining to watch, especially given how prideful the Space Karen is about his smarts. The not being able to see tweets without being signed in is recentish though isn't it, Musk deciding to raise walls to keep people out, and keep people in. ,
I think tweets that are embedded on another platform work fine, it's just with anything beyond that one tweet that doesn't work, so you can't see replies and so on. Which is a bit of a pain for the website whereI can still read tweets and watch twix vids on here but will be interesting to see if that persists once the 30 days are up.

I did. And that’s usually the case for things that turn out to have been videos. But in the interests of completeness I should point out that I can occasionally see embedded tweets. I don’t know why sometimes and not always. But it is more often than not that I can’t.It’s getting confusing as there are about 4 threads relevant to this now but I’m pretty sure @danny la rouge posted up a screengrab and he can’t see anything except a login page when he looks at tweets embedded here.
