Afghanistan: Mission Accomplished

Pen Farthing (the guy who runs the animal charity) was just on BBC news from Kabul. None of his staff can now leave, let alone his animals. He's allowed to as he's white. He was pretty harsh on Biden, to say the least. These poor people.

Two suicide bombs, many casualties,, civilian and military, including children. 'People hurled everywhere.......bodies, flesh, people were thrown into a canal nearby..."

Hell upon hell.

How anyone who does a thing like that can possibly think they're dying for anything besides pain and misery I've no fucking idea. If your cause requires this, then it's a shit cause. If your god requires it, then he's a shit god.

All this “Shocking” & “Tragedy” commentary……it’s all entirely predictable. Why is anyone surprised about events of the last few weeks. It was never going to end well.

Yes, it was, but remember we’ve had two weeks of dissembling shit from Biden and the rest of the elite PMC:

‘we’ve accomplished our mission’
‘The Taliban are no longer murdering fascists, they even think women can have a life’
‘We think the Taliban will reach out as they need x from us
‘The terror threat has receded’
‘Stay strong sisters’
‘Leave Joe alone, it’s all Blair’s fault’

For anyone gormless enough to believes a word of their shit it probably is shocking and tragic. The rest of us could see it coming a mile off

Things can be not surprising, even expected and predicted, and yet still be tragic and shocking.

How many days before US or UK special force are working with the Taliban to call in US or UK air strikes against IS K?

Christ. He's gone fully nuts now. We're on Bin Laden now, asking journalists to raise their hands if they think it was wrong to invade Afghanistan. He's actually nuts.

its going to be tricky- 75% of the Afghan economy is from aid and overseas johnnies pumping cash into it
Not anymore -
"The move comes just days after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) suspended payments to Afghanistan.
The Biden administration has also frozen the assets of Afghanistan's central bank that are held in the US."

I just think seeing parallels between the Vietnamese Communist-led national liberation struggle and the recent Taliban takeover, even in matters of postwar retribution, is wrong. I see how it's tempting, despite the historical specificities, and given its the latest example of the awesome military power of the United States leaving behind another failed venture.
As an aside, Chomsky makes the convincing case that the US war in Vietnam was not a "failed venture" but a success - the US successfully stamped out the spread of Communism in this corner of SE Asia - primary objective achieved.
