grew up in pub fella and stopped working in them at 28 so

know how to pour a few things

if anyone ask me for a sandy from a old school keg ale

i'd pour the half a pint and give them a bottle of lemonade
and suggest pouring very gentle at an angle

I saw alot of my cousins order a smithwick's and pour a layer of orangeade verrrry slowly on top. was that a shandy?

it's what i said - a smithwick's with a thin layer of orangeade on top. i don't know if it had name, why i asked.
i marvelled that the two liquids stayed separated (if in fact they did, but if not, why so careful about the pouring?)
this was in the 80s, mind.

"Never ascribe to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence"
Thing is they’ve been forwarding their revolting agenda since Thatcher. That’s not incompetence. It’s malice. Skilful malice. I get a lot of shit for saying this but i repeat. Tories are very good at what they do. Horrible gobshites definitely though. I wish Labour would be as cut throat (same as the Democrats in the US). Fight fire with fire.

The further we can get from US politics the better IMO.
Only just getting clear of some maniacs trying to duplicate it on a continental level.

Thing is you can’t do anything unless your in power with a mandate. I agree with you about US politics but that’s not stopping the Tories using the same populist politics. I’m basically old school Labour. Love unions (who wouldn’t), Clause 4, etc.

Here’s the but. New Labour under Brown pumped loads of money into the NHS and nurse training. My nursing cohort at John Moores Uni was the biggest it had ever seen. I got a career out of New Labour. They got in power And could do things like that. Obvious Iraq polluted their whole legacy unfortunately but they did many good things also. Way better than the Tories ever would have done.

Would i have preferred old school? Definitely. But they got elected. I think John Smith would have been a wonderful PM. I’d have taken him over Blair any day of the week.

Got a mate who advised downing street on behalf of nhs under Blair. . We both agree the parallel universe where Smith didn't die probably a better one

US politicians spend 2/3 of their time raising money. Spending caps right idea...I preferred it when Parliament didn't even acknowledge the existence of parties personally

They seemed to catch the zeitgeist. Apart from Prescott get a bucket of water over him (which i thought was a bit mean. He’d been a lifelong activist).
