Well, the pro-gun crowd will say that more liberal gun laws would have allowed the students to defend themselves.

This kind of thing could also be prevented by providing better mental health services. Its very difficult to get someone help unless their family is rich. And its very difficult to force someone into treatment. They basically have to do something drastic before social services kicks in.

BTW, some of our news outlets are counting at least 30 killed. I hope thats an overreaction and not an actual number. :(

Ask yourself. How many times must this happen before the Yanks stop slaggin' us for not owning guns?

No gun= subject
gun= citizen.

What arse.

BBC News just said ABC News is now reporting 29 dead.

Such a depressing familiarity to these kind of events. :(

I'm sure the all same debates as last time will be had all over again too...

vicious stuff :(

Fucking awful - and highly reminiscent of Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine.

His arguments on gun control still stand.

Very sad news...many families devestated and young hopeful lives ruined. It's a sad world at times.

just to add: bbc in typical 'early reporting' shit mode....didn't even say the shooter killed himself in the report, I had to go to CNN to find the proper details.

Pretty brutal :(

I wonder how long it will actually take for the US to ban gun sales. Still a lot longer I would wager as guns don't kill people, people kill people.....

'Guns don't kill people, people kill people'

Fuck me, where did I put the AK?, I feel like killing someone.

I wouldn't disagree with that for a second.

Bit of balance never hurt anyone though, right?

Yanks like guns. Their govenrment likes guns. As Yanks say, when I complain about 'Seppoe Imperialism'; Fuckin' live with it sucker:)

It's horrible hearing the gun shots from the mobile camera footage knowing that each bullet is probably hitting some poor defenceless student.

Every time there's yet another one of these terrible events, the issue of gun control comes up.

And then it's quietly ignored again.

No but its a tad worrying that people can easily ignore issues like the death of thousands and get so worked up about a kid, in a country notorious for producing maniacs and out of control gun use, going into a uni and going mental! I definatly don't condone it but there are much more serious issues happening everyday than this IMO.

You're all aware that the vast majority of unversities ban guns on campus, right? My uni banned them on campus, in residence halls, and fraternities, and all campus housing. Even the ROTC people had to check in and out their weapons from storage with campus police each time they trained.
