Your daily cat and kitten news

Ti is missing :( it's only been since early y/day morning but we're worried.

He looked like he recovered from having his teeth removed recently but last few days he's not really been eating and looked like he was losing weight again + wasn't right in himself.

I've knocked up some posters to put in neighbours letter boxes incase he's too weak to jump the fences and is trapped somewhere.
When we get extremes of weather our two change their behaviour in weird ways. Lil’ Bob once stayed out from early one morning until nearly 11 o’clock that night and we were frantic with worry as he’s usually such a needy boy. Turned up like nothing had happened. I hope this is the case with yours.

In an attempt to stop Ziggy chewing up the furniture I bought a fancy scratching post. It hasn't gone well.

The new scratching post arrives. Ziggy goes straight into the box it came in.

Absolutely zero interest shown in the scratching post.

The box is taken away. He settles a distance from his new toy and yawns. I think I've wasted my money again :(

He really is a gorgeous cat btw, forgot to say in my previous post - such a beautiful and expressive little face.

Gigantic chunder on the hall floor this afternoon. I'm not sure what triggered it, but all seems well with the world now, as he sleeps on the landing.

Give him time. It took mine two weeks before she would use the scratching post again after I re-covered it.

I think it went exactly to plan - Ziggy’s plan that is! :D

On the scratching post thing: cats aren't scratching to sharpen their claws, but to leave scent marks on the "portals" to their territory. Wild cats do this on trees to mark out the limits of their range and to know when they're coming back to base. Domestic cats much the same - which is why they often have an apparently irresistible need to scratch at a point near their entry/exit points (near doors, windows, catflaps, etc.) It's often a bit of a compulsion-routine-habit - with an indoor /outdoor cat doing the same steps over and over again - enter home, wander to scratch spot, scratch, proceed to food/water dish, settle down for a snooze. It's like a sort of mild OCD ritual. So if a cat tree or scratcher is in the "wrong" place for them - even if it's already well christened with their smell - they just won't use it. Give Ziggy a chance to get it good & stinky and if he's not touched it at all, then try just parking it in different spots. (The right spot will probably be right in the way where you the human will trip on or bump into it constantly, btw.)

Back with BD, I discovered the best scratching post was an artichoke plant near the back door. The stems were just the perfect density/softness for him to dig his claws right into for the best long/deep scratch - He absolutely tore into that plant! :D

So every year, even after discovering the futility of growing artichokes to eat (ie lot of effort for not much food!), I used to grow a couple of plants for him to enjoy. And when an artichoke flowers, it looks like the maddest giant thistle you could ever imagine - so that wss good too! :D
