What pet insurance do people recommend?

I used to be with Petplan but the cost has gone up a lot and the cost for Lifetime with £12 pa cover is £160 a month for 2 cats.
They currently have 5 weeks of free insurance from the breeder with Agria, which would be £113 a month for both with the same excess as Petplan, lifetime policy £6.5k pa, although they let you choose your excess level to get a cheaper monthly payment.

British Pet Insurance is looking pretty good with Lifetime Policy, £5k pa cover, same excess rates as the above (I checked all were similar for comparison sake) at around £50 a month for 2 cats.

I'm looking around for others to compare to, so any recommendations would be welcome. Insurance is more expensive per month for posh cats, but good recommendations are good recommendations iykwim.
The prices I'm being quoted atm. are absolutely fucking shocking, Sonic was insured with Petplan and even as a senior kitty, his cover was significantly cheaper (£50 a month) than their current rate.

Were with Animal Friends who seemed ok and did pay out but it has been changed to sainsbury's recently, don't know why!

Cheers, that's £88 a month for both cats, when the fuck did this get so expensive? (Actually £95 for both cats, Atlantis is more expensive simply because I paid more for him as he wasn't a rehome situation  )

Now I'm wondering what I'm missing about the BPI policy that it's so much cheaper*. Still reeling about the Petplan and Agria quotes, ridiculous money.

*Edit: Just had a look at reviews for BPI and there's my answer.

I got bored of shopping around and insured Carrie with M&S. Bored because it's easy to shop around on price but that's not really the key factor and you want to look ahead over the animal's lifetime in case other insurers won't accept them after they've developed a condition or two but you can't predict how policies will change over time.

They just seemed like a reasonably safe bet but cheaper than PetPlan.

I don't recommend this unscientific method.

Does the fact that they're indoor cats reduce the premium at all? As they don't go out you're ruling out car accidents or being attacked by a dog or another cat which is what a lot of claims are for.

I'm told by customers that Tesco pet insurance is good and they often offer club card points as an incentive to take out a policy which, of course is only of use to you if you shop at Tesco!

I don't insure my lot as with 4 cats and a dog it would cost a small fortune but they've got their own ISAs which should cover most vet bills.

Oh yes, I got a £50 M&S voucher as a sweetener, which paid for my Christmas dinner shop. After every staff member in the shop had read its terms and conditions to check it was valid and finally the manager put it through manually because the system wouldn't recognise it.
