Your daily cat and kitten news

So Vastra had literally not gone up the stairs all summer, I think since about May - she's basically lived in the garden or lounge the whole time. We'd occasionally carried her up to our room and she'd fucked off as quickly as she could, but yesterday Ziggy carries her up to the back room where I am working and, sure enough, she gets the hell out of dodge quickly, but then discovers Ziggy's room next door is nice and warm and has a soft bed and lo and behold! She has discovered upstairs again!

This did mean she walked in while I was on a work call today and yelled at me because she was too lazy to push open Ziggy's bedroom door herself (which she is perfectly capable of doing).

have you been allowed to move yet, or do we need to come up with an emergency rescue plan?

:p
I read a page on the Cats Protection League website saying that you shouldn't wake a cat up.

Letting sleeping cats lie

Cats shouldn't be disturbed when sleeping. When a cat falls asleep on your lap, you might not realise that the cat is asleep and continue to stroke them. Most cats will be aware of what is happening, but some might be sleepy and disorientated and react defensively to a perceived threat.

Recently named Thelma and Louise

Not sure which is which

The two surviving sisters from a litter of four

I’ve also got another pic of most of the kittens / young cats from this pen

We’ve saved more than we’ve lost from this batch

Still heartbreaking mind

The 18 cats that were set free by two twats some time ago

The final escapee has come home

So that’s 16 back in pens

One has decided that it wants to stay outside with the outside gang

And one rehomed itself in a local house and they are fine with it

So now all that needs to happen is the two people who did the breaking out need to be caught and ideally branded as trouble makers

Not going to happen but one can hope

Were the people who let the cats our animal rights activists or just common or garden twats?

I only ask because a friend of mine who was running a dog rescue at the time had a run in with one of the more extreme groups who didn't agree with keeping dogs or cats (or anything for that matter) as pets and said they were going to come and 'liberate the dogs and let them run free' as they didn't want them to be re-homed. She dismissed them as cranks at first but things turned nasty when they started threatening her and saying they knew what school her kids were in. She phoned the police who took it very seriously and it turned out that the police in Liverpool were already after these people.

I’ll be honest, no one knows the who or the why

What I do know is that the same morning 10 of the "freed" cats came back for breakfast happy as Larry

The outdoor gang can come and go as they please anywhere they want to go. Only looking for shelter and food

The twats also got into a barn type building and threw cat litter around the place. There was no claim who did it. It was the last'ish week of the school summer holiday so your guess is as good as mine who it might have been

But given the charity is close to a busy main road it's little short of a miracle that none of the cats were killed

I had this card from my vets come in the post this morning and thought what a lovely thing it was to do.

The only thing my previous vets would have sent me was the bill.View attachment 448468View attachment 448469
That's lovely. I think some vets are getting better - ours lights a candle on the reception desk if an animal is at the end of its life, to signal to everyone in the waiting room to be quiet and respectful.
