Your daily cat and kitten news

I am so very sorry for your loss Rebecca Riot - Minty was a gorgeous boy and I know you will have given him the very best life.

I lost my Radar in a very similar way a few years ago, he went downhill very suddenly and it was suspected to be a brain tumour - it was extremely traumatic for him and for us, and I feel every sympathy for you having to go through the same with your darling boy.

:(

My beautiful boy Minty had to be put to sleep yesterday and I'm devastated.

For the last week or so he seemed to be having a bit of a problem with his eyes and I was having to put his food under his nose before he saw it but was otherwise fine. I just put it down to him getting older (he was 15) but when I came downstairs on Monday morning I could see he'd gone completely blind as he was bumping into things and disoriented . I phoned the vet as soon as they opened and they told me to go straight down there. After a thorough examination, the vet said she thought there was something nasty going on in his brain, possibly a tumor but there was nothing that could be done about it. I took him home again but he deteriorated badly overnight and was stumbling around and yowling. I knew this was the end but I didn't want to phone the out of hours vet as it's not the practice I go to and I know they won't come out to the house so I just held him and comforted him all night. I phoned my surgery again in the morning and the vet who had seen him the previous day came out to the house and was shocked at how quickly he had deteriorated. I held him in my arms while she gave him a sedative and once her was asleep she gave the final injection and he slipped away peacefully.

I can't believe I'll never see him running full pelt across the field again or trying to stuff a live squirrel through the cat flap as he was such a character.

RIP my precious boy.

So sad. 😢

Took Ziggy to the vet today, after a ten minute battle to get him into the cat carrier. He is a remarkably gentle cat though - despite the prolonged battle to get him into the carrier, he never once lashed out at me.

He meowed for the first part of the journey to the vet which made me feel incredibly guilty, but once I was on the bus it was funny that the conversation of everyone within earshot turned to cats!

Here he is at the vets not looking happy at all (the carrier is bigger than it looks in this pic!):

He soon settled enough to jump to a nearby counter and the tough chap didn't even make a noise when he was being vaccinated.

I made the mistake of dozing off with a plate on my lap.

They have now discovered a liking for sour cream!
I hope no-one has a case of the shits tomorrow
It shouldn't do any lasting damage but most cats are at least a bit lactose intolerant (despite which they all seem to love anything and everything dairy  ), so it might get a bit messy - hopefully not though!

So sorry to read this.

I am currently trying to sort out a slight weight issue with Acapulco. he is 9 yrs old now, so I've got him on one pack a day of Hills perfect weight wet food, split into 2 servings (sometimes 1.5 packs); then dry food is Hills light mature adult. No treats (he never got them much anyway). Not advertising, but I've been quite won over by this brand, and it is way cheaper than those expensive all-meat cans that I keep getting advertised (which Acapulco was never that keen on anyway). he def looks very healthy now (v glossy coat) but the weight is still not dropping off.... I guess slow is best though.
