Your daily cat and kitten news

Saw the nice stand-in vet - she's over from another branch I think while Angel is on leave.
Well that was all rather positive - I think my week so far has just been so unbelievably shit (it's only Wednesday ffs!!!) that I was starting to catastrophise a bit.
Vet suggested as he's only on low dose gabapentin that a 3 day taper of 1 dose a day instead of 2 should be sufficient before stopping.
He has antibiotics until Sunday, on Monday I am to get a urine sample to the vet to be tested for bacteria to see whether that course of antibiotics is enough, or whether he needs another lot to fully clear it up (bacterial UTIs sometimes need longer than 2 weeks of treatment).
We'll see how he is after that.
Apparently even if he is a bit incontinent after it's all cleared up, there are treatments we can try that might improve things.
He's put on weight since his last visit!
His urine looks clear (she was able to get him to wee into a bowl), no visible sign of blood or cloudiness, and the concentration looks good.
And he's looking considerably perkier today than he has the last couple of days - sun's out this morning which I think affects feline mood as much as it does ours :)

So I'm feeling a lot better about his prospects today, at least for now (bearing in mind still that he is ancient).

Once again vet fell in love with him, she says the other vets who have seen him over the years talk about what a sweet cat he is, which is lovely to hear - he is just the sweetest gentlest creature, he doesn't even hiss at the vets and sometimes has a purr and a headbutt for them. Given that vets sometimes bear the marks of their previous patient, it's no wonder they have fond thoughts about a gentle one who is soft and easy to handle and doesn't bite or scratch!

:)

Oh, phew! Fantastic news I've been worrying all morning for you and Jakey. Very relieved for you both.

No more pics yet but the news is that there are five kittens.

Now I just have to decide which..?

:)
Snap!
Found in a straw stack that had to be taken apart.
Mother is feral, father is her son (now domesticated).
We are hoping the PDSA will take them off out hands, find homes for the kittens and spay the mother before returning her to the farm.

So pleased for you both. I'm sure the relief is great :)

Update, PDSA don't have room to take them until they are weened so I get to keep them for 3 or 4 weeks. They will pay to have the mother spayed though.

Beauty [our tripod] was in a TNR programme at some point as she has the cropped left ear, and her spay was - almost certainly - done by one of the small animal vets at the practice we go to. They also did the amputation, which was partially paid for by a combination of the Cats Protection, PDSA and RSPCA.
We've turned a timid feral into our house cat.

I have a feeling that if we tried that on Paddy, he would walk off while giving us the sort of withering look that only cats can give.

And my Jakey bless him, even when he's not ill he's monumentally stupid :D
I'm not sure he does actual regular cat things. Except mouse hunting, he was an excellent mouser in his prime.
I think he'd just look very confused and think it was time for his dindins :D
