Your daily cat and kitten news

It's a little hard to tell from that photo, but from the colouring, I'd guess it's a Tonkinese - a breed originally created by cross-breeding Siamese and Burmese.
It results in a different range of coat colours but with Siamese style colourpoint markings (temperature-labile albinism - where melanin is only stable at lower than body temperature resulting in dark extremities and pale body) and a slightly more moderate facial/ear appearance than the modern Siamese/OSH.
It could equally be a traditional style rather than modern/extreme style Siamese - that would be a Lynx point as you can see its tabby markings on its legs - possibly chocolate?

One way to tell for sure between the two would be up close look at its eyes - Siamese eye colour ranges from pale blue through to a mid blue, whereas Tonkinese tend to have either yellow/green, aqua, or dark blue eyes.

It's a beautiful cat either way!
I think he must be a Siamese of some sort. Definitely pale blue eyes. He's very friendly and allowed me to stroke him.

Gorgeous!
Now I can see his sides and eyes he does look more Siamese, Tonks tend to be a bit darker from their Burmese heritage, although older and/or outdoor Siamese can also get fairly dark coats on their backs over time.
All Oriental-Type cats have a tendency to be quite bold, human-oriented, and seek attention and affection from humans (unless they've been made wary by a bad start in life ofc.), they're often described as having dog-like personalities.
My Jakey flirts with everyone that visits our home, I am sure he is convinced that they have turned up just to see him (including the Openreach engineer :D )

The one above looks like he knows he's handsome 🤣

Thor didn't come home last night and hasn't been back today. He's never not come home before... :(

hope he's home safe soon.

he's probably found a party somewhere, with it being bank holiday weekend

one of the mogs i used to live with used to bugger off for the weekend fairly regularly then come home monday evening and sleep for most of the next 24 hours - was a bit concerning at first, but i got used to it, and only got as far as leafletting once when he hadn't come home by wednesday or thursday...

just been out for something.

downstairs kitteh did not want petting - she was eating grass in neighbour's garden. she's either decided she's a sheep today, or isn't well.

i hope she feels better soon, and i will be careful next time i step outside...

just been out to put something in the post and she seems to be better and demanded more pettings than usual...

Epona I was going to suggest puppy pads but sounds like you and Callie already thought of that. Has it helped your stress levels at least? I can’t remember how near you are to us but our washing machine has a setting that’s pretty good at getting wee smells out of things if yours starts struggling.
I was going to respond to this yesterday that our washing machine was up to the task and today the fucking thing actually caught fire and I had to call 999 and they carted it out (and dumped it on the estate, which I am probably going to get fined for fly tipping).
It's an incredibly generous offer you've made, I don't think you're near us (we're in Canning Town) and I'd feel a bit shit about bringing a load of piss covered stinky things to someone else's house anyway - we do have a laundrette a couple of streets away.

Thank you for the offer though. I might PM you if things get desperate - probably not though, I think the laundrette is probably not going to work out much more expensive than hauling loads of pissy stuff across London - but I will never forget that you made the offer, so very kind of you :)

 at it all.

all i can suggest is contacting council in the morning and telling them rather than waiting for them to find out and do something. i would hope they won't blame you for actions taken by the fire brigade...

All of them. 😁

Except the ginger - that one is already spoken for.

Remember that I am first on the "reserve" list for one of the black kittens as well - She's got offers to take all of them from within her own family but one has swithered a bit. So no more than two total or they would gang-up on me! :)

I'm sure whichever one (or two) you get, will be utterly adorable. 😊

Phoned the vet surgery about Jakey and his incontinence - vet wants to see him tomorrow.

Had a ridiculous conversation with the fill-in receptionist where she told me the vet (not my regular vet, because he is away for the next 3 weeks) wanted to see Jakey tomorrow.
I was told I had to go onto their website at midnight to try to book an "on the day" appointment, or I could phone at 9am.
I said to her, look I'm on the phone with you now and the vet has told you to tell me he wants to see my cat tomorrow - can you not just book me one of those appointments for tomorrow now?
This caused much consternation and she went to speak to the head nurse (Saira is just wonderful btw) and came back and sheepishly gave me an appointment tomorrow at 10.30.

Wish us luck, the poor lad is in a right state wetting himself all the time while he sleeps, constantly wet hind quarters, I'm hoping it's just due to the gabapentin - been told to take him off that, but I'm wary about stopping it cold turkey so will give him a small dose tonight then discuss with the vet in the morning.

Good luck Epona. I know how stressful this must be, and I hope the vet can give you the right answers about weaning Jakey off it.

Thank you.
My main concern is the vet might gently suggest that it's time.
I'd still want to try him off the gabapentin to see if that's causing the incontinence/drowsiness/confusion, or if taking him off it means he ends up back in pain (although he's over halfway through the antibiotic treatment for the UTI so hopefully that is having some effect now and he would be pain free without the gabapentin).
I'm just feeling quite bleak about it today.
I don't want his ending to be like this. I understand it might be though. He's 17 and has had CKD for 2 years during which he has been happy and healthy with medication, up until he got this UTI.

Oh gosh Epona it's heartbreaking that you're both going through this. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Whatever happens you've cared for him so well through this awful patch - and I'm sure he is aware that you've been by his side throughout, not just in the physical sense. I'll be crossing everything for you both.

Those people should have their fingers cut off.
If you don't want the consequences of having a cat, don't have a cat.
Tbf on the cat forums I frequent, it is usually tales of people adopting already declawed cats who are in need of a new home due to inappropriate toileting (digging in the litter tray can be uncomfortable if you've had your fingers and toes amputated) or biting/aggression (because you would too if you'd been through that) - so the stories are from good people who are taking on these mutilated and abandoned cats and rehabilitating them.
It's absolutely barbaric though.
For a long time here it wasn't technically illegal, but no vet would do it because the MRCVS had ruled it that any vet performing such surgery for non clinical reasons would be struck off, so it just didn't happen here even without legislation against it. And it is legal to perform amputations of course if there is a clinical need, such as a cat has had its paw shut in a door and has mangled toes and surgery would help - but it has to be for purely clinical reasons.
