Your daily cat and kitten news

black kittehs are prone to rust if you leave them outside in the rain

:p

BD used to love sitting out in the rain, till he was absolutely soaked, then come-in and have me dry/fuss him, then he'd ask out and do it all over again.

See also frost - he would sit outside in winter till his fur was white with it, then come-in, be fussed and then curl-up in front of the fire and steam away till the was warm and dry.

Unless of course he slipped-in a window in the dead of night, then you'd find a furry ice-block slipping under the covers beside you...!:mad:

My problem is that one of Mrs Fish’s pals also has a pregnant cat. She intended to have it fixed after its first litter but it got pregnant again too soon.

Its first litter were magnificent tabby type kittens - the mother is a very elegant cat with some Siamese/very short hair cat in her, so really distinctive.

Or should I go for a kitten from each litter?

It's nice to have siblings so I think two from each litter would be perfect.

We once had a black cat called Oscar who had tiger stripes that were only visible in bright sunshine. He was a beautiful creature.

Ryu's tail looks black unless it's in the brightest sunshine, when you can see it's stripy, so his nickname is Secret Stripes.

((((Epona and Jakey))))

Poor Lil’ Bob was in awful distress this morning so went to the vet in person to see if they was any cancellations (as we can’t get him in until Tuesday). The receptionist was very sympathetic, said there was nothing but offered to call us if anything turned up. Half an hour later she rang and said we could bring him in at 9.30 - what a star! The vet was probably the most Scandinavian man we’ve ever met (I.e. grey beard, ponytail, crocs, cheerful matter-of-fastness, etc.) and was so nice to poor Bob who was looking a bit pathetic at this point. It seems he’s got a flea saliva allergy so we’ll have to give him monthly treatment but the steroid injection he had gave him near instant relief. When we got home, he had his tail in the air and looked so much better (£90 well spent). He’s now collapsed into a deep slumber on the coffee table as all that scratching and grooming must have been exhausting. I can stop worrying now 🙂

I'm told that Mrs Fish's pal is expecting her cat to give birth this weekend.

I would think one from each litter sounds like a fine idea - it's excellent for them to have company, and introducing kittens to one another is a lot easier than getting adults to accept one another - usually youngsters are not so territorial and set in their ways and are glad of a similar aged playmate :)

Yes, that's about what I was thinking as well - and It might be possible to get them used to her little dog. Although they would coexist in the same space to a degree and he wanted desperately to be friendly/play, the old lady wasn't entirely that happy about having a canine interloper in her space.

I was up in the night with what I think is a touch of food poisoning from some fish. Unpleasant bathroom visit ensued, complete with rolling around on the floor in sharp pain and hot/cold sweats.

Donut must have known I was feeling crap - he came and bumped at the door, then when I felt well enough to get back in bed he came and sat next to me and purred. It really made me feel better :)

They're surprisingly good at nursing sometimes eh May Kasahara I hope you feel better, sounds grim.

Ryu went missing for a bit - well, was not seen for the longest time since we've had him. I was in bits this morning. You can't do anything else can you, until they're home. Eventually he crawled out of the ivy in the back garden with someone else's blood on his legs 🙄 looking nonchalant. It's a curse to love anyone this much 😭

When Mrs SFM had Covid - Lil' Bob stayed next to her on the bed purring for days. Only leaving to eat and do his business. Cats have way more empathy than they're given credit for.

Jakey is doing better again today (at least with regard to his pissing), still no word on his test results though so looks like we'll be waiting til Monday.

Although he was in a state yesterday afternoon, I think I found the reason - his previous dose of gabapentin in a damp wad of pill putty that he must have accidentally dropped instead of eating
So it must have been more painful and inflamed again.

I hope when we get the test results it shows a clear course of action, I know so often they can be inconclusive (like Sonic's snotty years, bless him - never did find a reason for that).

I have to say from my own personal perspective, I'm a bit fed up at this point of sleeping on the sofa to look after him and not really being able to go out - he needs constant babysitting due to the wobbliness from the drugs, and I really don't want him pissing on the bed as the mattress is difficult to clean (I can get a sofa cushion in a big machine at the laundrette so less of an issue than a king size mattress!)

So Harvey over the road isn't content with robbing every house on the block for food, he's now trying to take down every bird he can. Is current servants have fitted him with this, in a vain effort to give the birds a chance

I think it works by when it's spotted by other cats, the howling of laughter scares the birds away.
