Your daily cat and kitten news

I ended up buying the one below, nowhere I asked for recommendations gave me any and I'm impatient, want to start training her long before we go away so she's used to it. Will also be cool not to have to do the evening feed anymore :D - I'll still have to do the wet food manually, in the morning...

(£85 with discount, if it's shite I'll send back and try another - will report back in a few weeks) - I picked this as one that is mains operated with battery backup seems to be the most likely to be fail safe. The USB rechargeable ones will be dead once the battery dies, less reliable...
I think my main requirement is sturdiness - I expect these two will batter it till it dispenses.

This is my worry!! Jocky is a VERY determined chap when it comes to food, like all cats really, so it would have to be really bloody sturdy to withstand the damage he will attempt to inflict on it!

Anyone know what this might be - came up on little Marv's eye the last few days.

Possibly just standard cat eye bogies. Hard to say from the pic but does the area look sore or inflamed or just pink and a bit gunky?

Cats seem to have this as a normal thing... I asked our vet before as Poo had something similar and they said as long as it doesn't look like pus and infected and with an obvious sad eye (I think with inner lids showing and or bits sticking together) it's normal. Or at least nothing to worry about.

We're having a problem with him raiding the bloody bin at any opportunity. Any tips? It's a small terraced house, there's really nowhere the bin can go without him being able to get to it, or blocking his access to the catflap.

Maybe just try to clean the area with lightly salted water if Marv will let you?
This is what we do with Lil’ Bob. He’s always had a “runny eye” but it very occasionally tips over into something more irritating and a gentle clean with saline solution and cotton wool usually sorts the matter out.

Radar was like that, he loved to hide in the bin and jump out when someone walked past... Hilarious but messy :D

Swapping the swing top bin for a pedal bin kept him out.

We have a carrier bag hung on the back of the kitchen door. Simple but effective.

That wouldn't have worked with our Radar, he'd have eaten the bag. He had a thing for plastic, couldn't leave any within reach - and everywhere was in reach for him, he was like a fucking monkey always climbing up stuff :D
I miss that cat!
Our old lady Raz has a real pica for carrier bags, she LOVED chewing on them. Unfortunately they made her vomit. Everywhere!

Must be something in the Lee air. Mrs P and I met an old friend, the green box cat, on the way to vote in the Lewisham election.
As yesterday with the British Shorthair, it was Mrs P who was greeted most enthusiastically.
I think it is a female cat, and in my mind have decided to call her Vienna after the name tag she is drawing our attention to.

Pretty much all Torty & Whites are female. You will get the occasional rare male one but they’re sterile.

Defo not your usual gunk, doesn't look like conjunctivitis either.
I'm going to call the vet this morning. Poor fucker.

Cat has realised he likes to sleep near my head, with all four paws on my bare skin. He used to do it just to warm his paws up after being outside, then he’d bog off to the end of the bed, but he now likes to do it from about 2:00 through to when I get up. He then lets himself sink between the pillows for another couple of hours before getting up himself (I’m so lucky my cat likes to sleep in).

He’s very considerate about it. He tries not to wake me up. He does, but I can tell that he’s trying not to. He purrs intermittently, and quietly, as if he can’t help it and going “Doh! Don’t purr!” He sneaks up as gently as he can, watches a while to make sure I’m not going to wake up, surveys the lay of my arm and shoulder, then quietly manoeuvres himself so that his four paws are settled on bare skin.

Sometimes, I don’t wake up. Sometimes, I wake up a bit, just enough to notice what’s going on but without being disturbed (usually when he dabbles his paws to settle them). I’ve been sleeping badly recently so I’m much more aware of what he’s doing.

Sometimes, he positions himself so that his tail is across my face (I’ll fold it down if I can), and twice I’ve woken up with his actual bumhole on my cheek (he agreed to re-position himself, but it makes me wonder how often it happens that I’m not aware of….)

This morning I woke up to find he’d tucked his front paws into my curl-closed hand, and his back paws into the crook of my elbow.
There’s something ineffably moving about waking up to find that your cat is holding hands with you, and has been doing so for hours and hours.
