Your daily cat and kitten news

Just had a call from the vet about Jakey's urinalysis results - not so good, showing a lot more protein in his urine.
It's not unexpected but still not what you want to hear really.

As he is happy and has energy at the moment we're going to leave him be for the time being, we have an option to try subcutaneous fluids (which acts kind of like kitty dialysis) at home if/when he declines further, we'll have to weigh up whether that would be in his best interests of course (although he is very easy to handle and easy-going so he might be ok with it, I'd be amenable to giving it a go at least once and making a decision based on how that goes).

So yeah, another check-up in a few weeks, phone the vet if he starts to decline before then, monitor his condition and welfare/happiness in the meantime.

May he stay happy and comfortable for a long time to come.

So jealous polly, they wuv each other so much <3 unlike my dysfunctional pair who pointedly ignore each other 99% of the time.

When awake they fight and bully each other over food etc relentlessly, if that's any consolation! I think they just like the comfort of each other when they're asleep.

I'm so sorry to hear that Epona I hope he stays happy and comfortable too. I know you'll make the best decisions for him, whatever they may be.

Thank you :)

I mean it's not like we didn't know that he's going to get worse (we're slowing that down with the medication and diet, not stopping it), and he does look a bit doddery these days, but he is very happy and still has energy which I think for a cat his age with kidney failure is a good sign that he's not quite ready to go just yet. Although for a while now I've been mentally prepared that some day soon he won't have a good day and that it will be time - still hard to think about though.

He's been sitting on the radiator by the window making chattering hunting noises about the wood pigeons in the ash tree outside :D

Oh I hope for the sake of you both he takes to it okay. My old boy, sweet as could be normally, just growled through the whole process and we gave up after a few months. But he went on being perfectly contented for several years after that, if you can believe it! Sometimes these things do just level off at a new normal and you're blessed with all that extra time with them.

They're still quite young aren't they May? They might yet start to appreciate each other and end up good friends. I've seen that happen before.

Wow, I was totally staggered last night, as the previous lap record (a measly ten minutes or so) was absolutely shattered, as he spent a whole hour and a half glued in the same spot on me. Even went to sleep, which had nevered happened before.

Given what we were watching, I insisted on talking about it to him:
