Your daily cat and kitten news

Bit odd. I called the pet database agency the cat is registered just after 8 am. Now past 11 am and have had no contact from the owners. called them again and they said they left a message with the owners. If I don't hear back from them by 12 this afternoon, I'm going to let him out as he is desperate to leave.

Okay. So I let him out. Called the microchip company a third time. Asked them to call the owners again while I was on hold just incase they might pick up. No luck. Still not picking up. Got the agent to confirm if the cat was actually missing. She was hesitant to confirm it. But I said if you confirm it, I can leave him with the vet for it to be picked up. If not missing, I will let him out now. So she confirmed kitty was not reported missing. I may well see him about. We will see. They have my contact details anyway, so if status changes, maybe I will get a call from the family. I can then update them which way he went

hmm at cats being trendy

kitties are not fashion accessories.

and more hmm at scottish folds - obviously every one that's around now deserves a good home, but very hmm at intentionally breeding cats highly prone to painful joints and poor health (more here)

The gene that causes the folded ears is actually a lethal gene, if a kitten ends up with 2 copies of this gene, the skull does not form properly and it is born with massive cranial deformities with the brain exposed, if it lives past birth it will die shortly afterwards.
I agree with you that it is completely unethical to deliberately perpetuate the gene concerned by breeding cats because the more minor ear deformity is considered cute.
It's not like say a hairless sphynx cat, which although it might have challenges surviving in the wild in a cool climate, it's essentially physically harmless to a domestic cat.

Finally, finally, little Beauty has begun to properly play with her toys ...

This morning she used the coffee table leg, both dangling flirt pole tails and several bells in cage balls for quite a few minutes, some of it by herself and some with me flicking the tails for her entertainment / reaction. She's got several other catnip / cat stuffies as well - Hope that she doesn't start to include Ben's tail in that ...

She's got a choice of hard & soft food, cat crack and water [or very, very diluted skimmed milk - she doesn't seem to be lactose intolerant]. So, she's finally eating well, she can make quite a racket if she thinks food is due !

Three cats beds, plus the furniture as well as the carpet mats for sleeping on or in. No doubt she'll soon be nicking Ben's stuffies for a cuddle. Ben himself more than tolerates her, they "touch noses" quite often [tbh I think she trusted the dog before us humans, despite probably being mauled - the cause of her broken leg] Not yet sleeping together, as far as we know.

And, we actually have two litter trays for her, which the vet thought was a good idea - what is it ? one per cat and one for the house ?
She's still laying at least one "pit prop" per day.

Most importantly, the amount of grooming seems to be returning towards "normal" and most of the already exposed skin looks fine - excluding a couple of areas that still have scabs. She's even allowing extensive strokes - including her tail - and ear/neck skritches, she even came to me for attention just now.

E2A ... images are here [updated shortly - I'm aiming for some of her "at play" later today/tomorrow]

Great news!

What is "cat crack" please?

This is Bruce...

We got him form Battersea cats home. They told us he was a domestic short hair. However our vet said he's definitely a British Burmese. Which make sense as he has a very high pitch girly meow (for such a big lad). Had him a month now, its like have a mini race horse in the house. He gallops around the place all night and sleeps all day. Has destroyed the sofas also. Little beast, but love him to bits!

We came home today from lunch and Mr Bruce had past away in his favourite spot under our bed. We think he was about 13. No signs of any trauma. He seemed so fine and healthy.

RIP mr Bruce x
