Your daily cat and kitten news

Canelle doesn't seem to care about the rain, I've not even seen her since xmas apart from one evening earlier this week and a brief visit the following morning. The people staying next door atm let her inside, and she has access to other buildings for shelter, but they don't feed her. She's always hunted most of her food anyway though.

Cosmo otoh has worked out that he can come and do his pitiful tiny meow outside my door when his other human servants aren't being attentive enough, and I'll go round and open their door for him

Sonic was an indoor cat but he loved to lay in the sun coming in through the windows.
On his last day when he was terminally ill he went to look out and then glared at me like it my fault it was overcast and raining.
Loved that cat so much! Opinionated wee shite :D

Trillian has just earned her keep by alerting us to mice in the cupboard where we keep breakfast cereals, nuts and other tasty mice treats. She didn’t catch any but stared at it so intensely that it made me take a proper look. Thankfully the mice were just feeding off forgotten things at the back and most things are nibble free. Dreamies for our furry hero tonight!

Dreamed last night that Lilith had had kittens! Not newborn ones either but at least eight weeks old, jumping around and playing and generally impossible to locate. They were black and white and presumably fathered by Cookie next door. Anyway, I was ready to go and find the vet who'd spayed her and ask for a refund. As much as I love kittens, it was a relief to wake and find it wasn't true...

When Buttons had kittens, it was 3 months of a steep learning curve making sure they learned to use a litter box, getting them on to solids while ensuring didn’t injure themselves getting up to all manner of mischief (plus getting Buttons spayed to avoid a repeat performance). It was a relief getting them rehomed 😀

Cute babies! If I had unlimited funds, I'd have 10 cats, no bother.

Mr Lyndon has had a tough 48 hours, on top of a rough 7 weeks. Diarrhetic shot on Thursday night meant he was literally weeing every hour all night, then the diarrhoea hit.

Thankfully, after being back to just a bit of white fish yesterday morning, he ate a decent amount of biscuits yesterday afternoon and evening and has had a few biscuits this morning. Still eating less than half what he once did though. Discussion with the vet on Monday as to what next.

Here he is getting some well deserved rest.

Poor Mr Lyndon. I hope he's feeling better soon x

Cat has asked me to stay the fuck out of the kitchen while he stalks a mouse.

He’s been stalking it a few days (no doubt it’s living on the detritus on my filthy floor…) and I spotted it last night skittering between some stuff Cat can’t get between.
I think this also explains his recent habit of sitting in the cold hallway at night or staring at the floor behind the bathroom door: mouse under the floorboards.

He’s increasingly frustrated by this mouse. Last night he gave up and came to bed. Today he seems determined to catch the little blighter.

However, I’m hungry and want to make a fried egg on brioche snack. And I’m planning to eat the last of the truffle Gouda.

And I also need to sweep the kitchen floor. Although, if I leave it, maybe the mouse will come out to forage and be easier to catch. I have no doubt Cat will prevail: he has proven his mousing skills many times in the past, albeit usually outside.

Intense focus at the front end, swishing tail at the rear due to annoyance at my standing there.

Come on Lyndon, please get well soon.
Beautiful red boy ❤️

Jakey seems to have been a bit more frail in recent weeks.
He is doing OK but just not as strong, a bit slower getting up and moving, you know the sort of thing.
I remind myself that he is 17 at the beginning of February and that is old for most cats, and older for an OSH who have a slightly shorter average lifespan (not because of inbreeding or anything and he is not inbred, just the natural way they are, like their long skinny bodies and ultra-short hair and large ears and other adaptations are a little different).
I worry about him all the time but I do know he is happy - I am glad I've let him back in to sleep in bed with me now, he's settled down OK and is relatively undisruptive to my sleep and I am sure it is as much of a comfort to me as it is to him that we are close pretty much all the time!

Here he is tonight:

A mafia cat response would be to leave a horse's mouse's head in your bed
They can't get inside unless I've let them in but Canelle left a dead goldcrest on my doorstep last time we had a proper row

Still not seeing much of her but I was honoured with a visit from the Prince of Darkness himself the other night. Cosmo hasn't been in much since we had a disagreement about whether crates of tatties are cat beds or people food  but he came round to ask me to open the main house door and then decided he'd stay here for a bit first. Even convinced him to try out the big cushion in front of the fire which he's been stubbornly avoiding for months.
