Your daily cat and kitten news

So I’m going to be away overnight. Probably won’t be home til about 9 tomorrow.

Cat feeding neighbour is suddenly unable to cover cat feeding duties and I haven’t the time or the energy to ring round everyone I know to get alternative help. So, I’m going to leave Cat unattended overnight.

I‘ve been meaning to do this at some point anyway. All the cats I’ve lived with in the past have had this initiation rite. It’s a just-in-case thing. I need to know it can be done if it becomes necessary.

He’ll have plenty of food and water. He’s sleeping most of the day at the moment anyway. He’s already quite accustomed to irregular rock and roll hours. When I’m away and someone pops in to feed him, he’ll often be out himself and won’t see them. Weather is cool enough for the food not to go off.

I’m sure he’ll be fine although he may wonder where all the humans have gone.

I arrived home at 9:00 last night. Cat was fine. He hadn’t finished all the food I’d left out but I fed him some fresh food anyway, which he then didn’t finish. So clearly he hadn’t been hungry.

He came to keep me company as I unloaded the car and then went about his business, checking his boundaries, for about half an hour. Then he made sure to keep me within sight as I unpacked and got ready for bed. When I was tucked up, he leapt onto the bed and started playing like a kitten, rolling about and catching his tail, attacking the blanket, hunting for toe-mice. It seemed like he was expressing pure delight. I took it as a compliment, happiness to have me home. The rest of the night I’d wake from time to time to find him purring close to my head, resting his chin on my wrist where he can feel my pulse, all the things he does to be affectionate.

He really is so sweet natured. No crossness, no humph -ing, no demands for treats, just glad to have me back.

Picture from street WhatsApp group of a neighbour's ragdoll who has been coming in and making himself at home with other neighbours! He's never come inside ours but we have occasionally have had chats with him outside it, even though he lives at totally the other end of the street.

Can I just say...I love your tiles..
🙂

We picked up our new rescue kittie Theo from Yorkshire yesterday and the RSPCA gave us a hand-knitted blanket that a volunteer had made for him - I wonder if it was this guy?

He's the most chilled out cat ever - completely unfazed by the one hour car journey yesterday. And he loves his cozy blanket!

: purr :

welcome to the thread, theo

not sure if there's any scientific basis for it, but i've tended to find that tabbies are usually the most laid back of kitties

The scaffolding has been adjusted outside my bedroom window which now allows the girls to jump onto it and back into the flat. They last had this chance about 6 years ago. Chloe has now got the bug again and likes going on it, forcing me to keep the window open in the cold-particularly bad at night

Was away from home for most of two days & one night, and a good chunk of today.

Cat was not too impressed when I tried to give her a scritch last night, but left me a solid [honking] present to clear up this morning.
She must be getting better as she got away from the person handling her today, jumped / fell down and went to hide. She eventually went back in the carrier we are using for the "bed rest" and then back to the crate that forms her exercise area ...

So, she'll take the odd stroke / back of head scritches but she's not happy at being handled, with appropriate bad language. The only time I had to do that since her "little" operation, I used a thick towel to wrap her up.

Not especially looking forward to tomorrow afternoon, as I need to take her for the first post-op check-up and I'll be on my own. Think I'll need to warn them she's getting feisty !

Took the triped for her check-up, a week after she lost her leg.

Vet seems to think she's doing well, and should adapt well to her new life.
Some advice for the next couple of weeks - gentle exercise to build up confidence in walking etc and hopefully trust through being handled.
Stressed that this had to be a slow process at the moment, although she should be well on the way to the surgery being fully healed.

She's now "Beauty" ...

I'll try for some images tomorrow, but I need a new chip for the camera.

[edited to correct to replace of with for in third line - need to concentrate]
