Your daily cat and kitten news

Anyway he’s asking , ever so gently, with the occasional very subtle shoulder bump. It’s nothing else, not the door, not a treat, not neck scratches.

I’ve shown him the empty pot and explained I’m waiting to re-up but he clearly suspects I’m holding out.
I've even given him the pot to inspect for himself but he’s still hanging around, just in case.

So I’m going to be away overnight. Probably won’t be home til about 9 tomorrow.

Cat feeding neighbour is suddenly unable to cover cat feeding duties and I haven’t the time or the energy to ring round everyone I know to get alternative help. So, I’m going to leave Cat unattended overnight.

I‘ve been meaning to do this at some point anyway. All the cats I’ve lived with in the past have had this initiation rite. It’s a just-in-case thing. I need to know it can be done if it becomes necessary.

He’ll have plenty of food and water. He’s sleeping most of the day at the moment anyway. He’s already quite accustomed to irregular rock and roll hours. When I’m away and someone pops in to feed him, he’ll often be out himself and won’t see them. Weather is cool enough for the food not to go off.

I’m sure he’ll be fine although he may wonder where all the humans have gone.

Timed cat feeders are your friend

Load up the biscuit hopper and away you literally go

An overnight no problem. Probably work up to a weekend away

He doesn’t overeat, he’s pretty measured about that.

He’ll have dry food and wet food too.

It’s the company thing that I worry about a bit, cos he’s an only cat.

And any injury going unnoticed.

Although he does have his cat-pal who visits, and he likes to spend many hours outdoors doing his own thing. And he’s definitely traffic savvy.

Yeah, he will for only one night. Any longer than that and I'd personally make sure there was someone to check in on him, but as long as he's got food he probably won't even notice you're gone!

Our two seem to go into survival mode if we’re away overnight. They huddle together, eke out their food and sleep a lot - although Vic goes out to hunt and gets extra rodent protein. They’re very glad and scolding when we get back though. Sure they’ll be fine.

Yes, true. Sometimes when I’m out all day it’s obvious that he’s not stirred from his spot to eat or pee for the entire day.

Anyway. He’s got enough food to survive more than the 24 hours. Two helpings of biscuits and the full 24 hour load of wet food.

the person who does the 'purr in ink' drawings had a stray black cat adopt them a month or so back. not chipped and previous 'owner' not traceable.

We picked up our new rescue kittie Theo from Yorkshire yesterday and the RSPCA gave us a hand-knitted blanket that a volunteer had made for him - I wonder if it was this guy?

He's the most chilled out cat ever - completely unfazed by the one hour car journey yesterday. And he loves his cozy blanket! 20231127_152653.jpg
