Your daily cat and kitten news

So after a couple of weeks of being unwell Lyndon's full diagnosis is
(a) pancreatitis
(b) perforated and infected gum

Been to the vet four times in the last week, now in for tooth extraction on Monday. He's not eaten properly in weeks and I can't get any meds for pancreatitis into him as they are all food based. So had painkiller injection yesterday afternoon, did fuck all, opiate injection this morning, still doesn't seem to have taken effect.

Spent a fucking fortune and he's just getting worse, for now he's hiding under our bed self-soothing purring, got to get him out later to squirt some opiate into his mouth, that should be fun. Bit fucked off with my vet TBH, appreciate it's not easy with animals, but they should have checked his mouth when I first got there 10 days back.

Feel like I've let Lyndon down too, haven't been at the top of my game what with the funeral arrangements and so on after the death of my Dad a couple of weeks back, should have been firmer with the vet earlier. This has finished me off, my head just popped earlier, was bawling in the car. Got to travel up for the funeral a week on Sunday so I'm stressed as all fuck about what state he'll be in for the pet sitter.

I'm miserable as fuck and so is Lyndon.

Sorry. Just needed to offload.

I'm so sorry to hear what you and Lyndon are both going through. If there's anything we can do for you, let us know.

When it’s very cold at night, he’ll come and plant his paws on any bare skin he can find, my shoulder or neck. He’s done it since he was a kitten and it’s a clever trick for warming himself up. He‘s always polite about it, careful not to do it too quickly and make me jump but icy cold toe beans on warm skin is bound to disturb my slumbers. He’ll go into immediate full throttle purring if I wake up, almost as if he’s apologising.

He‘s upped his game with this.

I woke in the cold cold dawn to find his back paws and ankles tucked into my armpit. The rest of him was hummocked between two pillows and he was purring like an ocean liner in the middle of the Pacific.

How he managed to wriggle his feet into that spot I cannot say.

Ninja moves.

I only realised because as I shifted just a little, he everso gently flexed his claws so that they touched the surface of my skin, just enough to let me know where his paws were. And as the thread knows, rear claws are blunter than foreclaws, so there wasn’t even the pinpricks, just the live edge of his informing me. Then he turned his nose towards me and purred into my face til we both went back to sleep. He was still there when it was time to get up.

This all sounds awful in all the most horrible ways possible.

Id have thought that checking teeth would be one of the easiest simplest and most usefully informative things to do in an initial examination . Seems remiss that it wasn’t done in the first instance. Sometimes professionals forget their basics.

Worrying about how Lyndon will be in your absence, while attending to something as hard as your Dad’s funeral is a bad burden fucthest8 . I hope he takes the opiates and can at least float on the poppy seas while you’re away.

Brilliant, that's cheered me right up.

Thanks everyone else, appreciate you listening to me moans and the support, really, nice people y'are

I hope Lyndon turns the corner before you go away, fucthest8 And sorry about the loss of your dad.

Our Paddy had pancreatitis back in 2019. He had to be admitted to the vets for a couple of days and we were literally 48 hours from cancelling a holiday. He did bounce back, fortunately - I was so looking forward to him coming home, and when he did he was quiet and miserable and anti-social. He picked up after a couple more days when I made a tuna sandwich (for myself) and he suddenly appeared and harassed me for some tuna. Thankfully he was fine after that.

I'm a reasonable man, so I get that no-one's perfect, but yeah, kind of felt not checking his teeth right at the start was a schoolboy error story

However, I'm not a twat and we all make mistakes, so, y'know.

Anyway, after the unpleasantness of getting more drugs into him, he appeared between 7:30 and 08:30 and ate a bit, not loads, but more than lately so that's a huge improvement

He did look a bit like this though :D

It's hard to eat when you're stoned so that he did tells you both that he was hungry, and feeling well enough to eat. Onwatds

Update on the triped.

"Beauty" is making good progress. 12 days into her new life.
This morning, after meowing a bit in response to the arrival of her food dish, she came a good few feet out of her "cave" for breakfast and some cat crack, another couple of feet further on.
The turn to go back wasn't that graceful [!] but she didn't fall, and she managed a rapid return to her shelter.
The single back leg was used in a distinct "hopping" gait and the foot was reasonably central under her bum.
Promptly had a nap. The post-prandial wash came later !
So, progress being made.

Cat is eating much less since he started the long winter sleep. I’m not worried, he is in fine fettle, and it’s fairly normal for him to go off his food for a few days at a time. I do wonder if he’s got an alternative food source somewhere in the neighbourhood.

He’s pretty chonky. Not overweight exactly, but if he gets any heavier he will be shading into fat-cat territory. I can still feel his spine, just about. It may be his winter padding. I’ve never had a fat cat but I’ll keep an eye on his weight as the summer gets going next year, hoping to see his winter padding fall away.

He loves his treats but I’m strict about rationing them out. He’s not greedy, doesn’t gobble his food.

I hope Lyndon's doing better today fucthest8

Thanks for asking :) Was just coming here to say he's certainly no worse, has come out from under the bed fairly regularly and tried a bit of food, and frankly that's good enough for now.

Assuming all goes well tomorrow he should recover pretty quickly, if his previous extraction is anything to go off. Fingers crossed.

Sorry for being such a miserable fucker yesterday, everything really got on top of me. Feel much more hopeful today.

I was worried about Lyndon losing weight. What I hadn't realised is how much he'd put on since becoming an indoor cat, he was almost 5kg, around 0.7 kg heavier than he was when out door 😳 Oops.

He has lost weight over the last two weeks, but not enough to worry about, thankfully.

Anyway, I think your plan of seeing what happens come spring is fine, it's always that balance of what's healthy v how active they are eh?

You didn’t sound like a miserable fucker imo, you sounded appropriately and justifiably hacked off and worried.
