WTF? Girl in China Run Over and ignored

But, that is Oxford Street. Not some dead end street in a small town in China.

I cannot see any viable reason why this apparent incident was caught on CCTV. I cannot see any reason why the inncident was apparently ignored yet there are witnesses prepared to say what happened. I cannot see any reason why the footage has been published on the web ahead of any trial.

News made from nothing. Propoganda.
perhaps it's a hotspot for running over toddlers, which led to the erection of the camera. hadn't thought of that, had you?

What's the name of that chap who does telly shows where he hypnotises people and they wake up in foreign lands?

He did a run of shows at the Hackney Empire, I think.

Got advertisers to make the campaign he'd fed into their unconscious.

Him.

Maybe he's behind this ruse?

What a peculiar attitude, Stanley Edwards.

I'm finding it fairly entertaining.

Very simply:

I can't see any evidence. The video footage is very flawed. People are saying that she was ignored for 7 minutes, yet there are witnesses to the incident! I can't see any reason why CCTV cameras were employed on the street. I can't see enough detail in the footage, or the story.

But, hey - you can apparently. Why?

maybe he's done something to stanley, some sort of post-hypnotic suggestion.

because we've engaged brain. it's a trick you may care to try sometime.

Makes a nice change for the Chinese authorities I should think, usually accused over covering up the horrible safety record and evidence that all is not well under their benign rule.

You dumb fucks.

CHINA IS A BAD COUNTRY AND ALL CHINA PEOPLE KNOW IT.

Little kiddies get squashed in the streets :( Nobody cares. They just go about their daily business like nothing matters.

Fuck you dumb fucks. This didn't happen.

But Stanley Edwards, you are negating your own argument.

Why would a bad country want to make themselves look callous uncaring selfish and mercenary?

Surely they would squash such a story rather than perpetrate and perpetuate it?

Surely we would be hearing about how helpful and interactive and happy the Chinese people are?

im with stanley on this. in fact i'd go further and say not only did this incident not happen but i refuse to believe in the existence of this 'china'. i've been dubious about it for years now but more recently it's all i ever hear about yet for some reason i've never seen it for myself. how convenient that it should be 'on the other side of the world' - whatever that's supposed to mean!

According to this websiterun by neo-Maoists (who've also fallen for this story despite being rabid nationalists), the driver of the first truck was actually interviewed on the phone by a journo, and said he didn't stop because if the child died it would cost him less in compensation than if she lived and he had to pay the hospital bills too:
如果小孩死了大不了赔一两万元,如果活着,几十万都可能不够
If the kid died at most it would be ten to twenty thousand; if she lived then likely several 100,000 wouldn't be enough.
The commentary points out that since he's admitting to noticing when he hit her with the front wheels, carrying on and running her over with the rear wheels ought to be seen as deliberate wounding. If he'd stopped in first instance, it could be dealt with as an accident, now they think it should be seen as criminal.

There was a trucker I heard of, an aquaintance of a friend, who was working on the underside of the truck when it moved and the rear wheels ran him over. The lower part of his body was squashed under the wheels. The paramedics came and did what they could but basically the weight of the truck was keeping his squashed lower body from bleeding, once they removed the weight he was doomed to bleed to death in moments. They did all they could talking to him and getting his family there and then after a few hours they removed the truck - and he died there and then.

He said "If she's dead I may pay only 20,000yuan, but if she's injured it may cost me hundreds of thousands of yuan" Plus there's a few similar cases referred to.

Both drivers arrested, supposedly.

China People's Daily did a poll - 80% of people would not help an elderly person in the street for fear of extortion... (yeah, old people, not babies, I know. Age really shouldn't be an issue anyway)

I have been meaning, for some time now, to go on a first aiders course. It would help to know what to do to help someone.

Oh, it sounds quite possible to me, there are a lot of arteries in the lower torso and upper legs which if squashed would be blocked but on releasing them they could bleed out very quickly. Anyhow it was a story told me, I have no reason to doubt it.

There is this sort of urban myth fear of old people deliberately extorting people by faking accidents, with the odd genuine (supposedly at least) case every few years to keep that alive. But as I said in very first post and has been pointed out on Chinese sites, there's also thousands of people helping each other every day but of course that's not news.

I believe it. It's like when you've been stabbed or impaled yourself on a railing (not that it's something I would normally do), they take you to hospital with railing/knife still attached to you to stop arterial bleeding... and stuff that's too medically challenging for me to explain

A lot of first aid is mostly stuff you can do to keep busy while waiting for the ambulance.

You have to know it to quite a high level to actually be of much use.

ETA and stuff NOT to do in order to avoid more damage. And how to call for help, manage bystanders etc.

This is the latest on the child's health this morning: http://news.163.com/11/1019/03/7GMR89G500014AED.html

Says (in the weird way they write news here) that she's brain dead already by many indicators but still responds to pain which would indicate not brain dead. Also that she may take a turn for the critical at any time. :(
Apparently people have been donating loads of money to the family, including just turning up at the hospital and leaving cash, to the tune of around 270,000 now. The father says he wants to make it all transparent but it's all a bit too much at the moment (understandably). Mrs Chen also turned up to give them the money she'd got in reward, as she'd promised, though afterwards some company gave her more.
