Women's World Cup 2019

Wasn't offside, US coach for it disallowed
Was a pen, why doesn't Ellen White take them?
I really dislike the US goalie
Steph Houghton is a remarkable human being because she's an inspirational captain of her country and despite her husband being diagnosed with motor neurone disease hasn't let her performances for club or country dip
Hate to say it but it was offside. Felt off in real time tbf. And it was a pen, which looked like nothing in real time. VAR wasn't the problem tonight. :(

I think Neville's changes of personnel and system were too different to every other game.
Parris didn't start wide on the right, which I didn't understand. She ended up there, and was more dangerous as a result. Why not start out there - her linking up with the likes of Bronze is what causes the most threat.

But a near-goal and a pen from a trip which probably stopped a goal. It's not like they didn't come mighty close.

I didn't see a single instance of any of the women spitting. Contrast that to the ghastly men who spit all over the place during a game

Oh well. The better side won in the end and they had a tense lead the whole time which is the best we could have hoped for.

The thing that always got me about the men is that they throw themselves on the ground, roll around, and scream with the tiniest of hits. Yes, I know that's a thing, and considered part of the game, but it sure looks odd.

I enjoyed that. I train an under tens team (well will be this season) so I probably watch the game differently and could see where England's went wrong.

But not as much as the other men in the pub that spent 90 mins shouting at the screen about washing, ironing and being lesbians. That bit was quite depressing.

On the upside, my under tens are pretty good and they love the game, which is the most important bit. Winning is even better, but we all learn from losing (we only lost three games this season).

Scott was pretty anonymous tonight. Guess credit to US for that in part. But I didn't think the US were all that. Panicky at the back at times.

We went to the local and I suggested we return home as the sound was too low In fact it was the same type of commentary we felt our boys did not need to hear throughout the game.

Pretty shit
Have been pleasantly suprised (although I guess thats a bit depressing in and of itself) that I havent really heard any of that shit when watching the games out

Still a way to go. But we'll get there eventually
I have not searched the forum. Did the last women's world cup get much attention? It feels like there was more engagement this time? ETA not only here. Last time I would not have contemplated going to the pub to watch. And it never was the headline news on the BBC.

I think it's definitely been a bigger deal - much more coverage and lots more interest from people that dont follow football too closely; has felt like a real event

Finally! Tonight and other games have shown it can be as exciting as men's football.

ETA with less spitting and diving.

PS And what amazing role models for young girls

No it didn't. But we have a brilliant women's team that we were beaten by the Number One team in the world.

I see girls playing at under nines/tens every week and they are just as capable. Indeed some are more more capable.

I took my team to a tournament last week and as you can imagine they come up against a lot of the same teams. One of them had the most amazing female goalkeeper. She's on Chelseas under ten books.

My boys were like "oh man we won't win this because she's amazing".

I liked that because at that age they don't worry about gender, race or anything else.

But I still want want my boys to stick four past her!
