Women's World Cup 2019

D'wards

IT'S YOUR DECISION DANIEL
Starts in a couple or three weeks.

I admit I don't know a lot about the womens game but am a big fan of these month long tournaments, so going to get right into this.

I'm backing our girls to bring back the tournament.

I'll watch as much as time and work allows. Good team, England, some excellent players to.look outfor if you're not familiar with the squad - captain Houghton and fellow defender Bronze are great players, and Duggan and Taylor up front are fine players. Strong squad, not the favourites perhaps but will go close given a bit of luck.

We've been thinking about going, but it'd be good if the England group games weren't in Nice, bottom left and le Havre, top right, with 1100km between them.

Really looking forward to this. Got tickets to the semis and the final in Lyon, obviously hoping England make it that far

As I said on the general thread (passive aggressive, moi...? ;) :D ), it's a real shame Izzy Christiensen didn't make it back after injury (although I read somewhere that Neville said it wasn't because she wasn't fit, but because in her absence others staked their claim, which seems a little harsh :( ), but we've got a decent squad all the same. Looking forward to seeing the likes of Parris and Kirby linking up, with White or Taylor up front and Lucy Bronze just being generally brilliant.

I'll watch all the England matches, and then try and catch what I can of the others.

Love a good tournament :)

Yeah, I contemplated going to the games against Scotland or Japan, but just too far away, and just not keen enough on the Argentina game to make the trip.

Same, and I guess we're not the only ones. The idea of trailing around the group stages then seeing what happens is quite appealing but London -> Nice -> le Havre -> Nice is simply absurd. You'd have thought the football authorities would have enough experience to be able to produce sensible arrangements but it appears not. See also Baku.

I think the venues were planned before the draw, so they had no idea which teams would be playing at which venues.

Fans aside, it's also not the best situation for the players :(

They must have known that it wouldn't suit anyone. Group D appears to have 2 matches in each of Nice and Paris and one each in Rennes and Le Havre, so they're all over France. Surely it's more normal to cluster the group geographically, both for travelling supporters and locals who want to follow something coherent rather than having apparently random games, eg Le Havre hosts matches in groups B, E, D, A & F!

I just bought the England away strip, because I'm such an easy mark  £70! :( They better bloody make it to Lyon...

Yeah, it's a fair point, anyone who got that berth would be in the same position. I imagine it's quite hard to satisfy everyone in every way, with so many moving parts, but you do wonder how it worked out like that.

Looking forward to it.

Not least because I expect to see some good football, and a lot less ridiculous displays like this.

sure, but they could at least try!

eg, today is the FA cup final. It's also the Champions League final. At exactly the same time, so no chance of seeing both live. Why would they do that?

It'll be impossible not to hear the cup result so I'll watch that and have to hope I can find the women later, somehow without finding out the result.

kind of enjoying this - not something i had taken an interest in before- good to see football without the *big names* and baggage playing

Germany China was a very enjoyable game. Just about the right result. China were fortunate to finish with all 11 players on the pitch.
