Scottish Tory conference: Leader Ruth Davidson would scrap free prescriptions

Except, she'll never have the chance, because she'll never be in a position to do so.
They're mental to think it'll get them votes anyway, it's probably the SNP's single most popular policy

That's a little disingenuous: she'll only scrap them for certain groups, not in toto.

It doesn't matter, it won't win votes and there are NO Tory MSPs that are not list candidates. They didn't WIN a single seat. If it wasn't for PR there wouldn't be any in Holyrood!!
And as if that would be the only thing they'd do  FFS they said the NHS is safe in our hands shortly before the last GE!!

"Referendum on knife edge as Yes closes gap"

"The poll, conducted by Panelbase, has revealed that support for independence is now sitting at 40%, its highest mark since campaigning began in earnest, with those against sitting at 45% and Undecided on 15%.

The findings mean Yes is up three points since the last Panelbase survey, with No down two. The number of Don't Knows was also down one point. The swing to Yes means the No campaign's lead has halved compared with the previous Panelbase survey in February.

When Don't Knows are stripped out, Yes is on 47% with No on 53%, meaning Yes needs a swing of around three points in order to overtake its rival."

Opps, unwell and heavily medicated, with a lot of work on and deadlines I can't miss, no real windows to post til 10 th April, not that matters that much

this is a well fleshed out argument. I cannot help but be swayed by its substance and addressing of the point.

Fair enough.

When I was 14 I was kicked unconscious by 3 lads in Inverurie. Witnesses to it recorded they were shouting "Guffy cunt" whilst kicking in. When the police did lift them, they admitted they did it because I was English. What was ironic was I'm from Australia, and still had a reasonably Sydney twang at the time, which has long since become a more generic anglo twang. In Glasgow, 5 years later, in Alexandra Park a group of teens attacked me and the girlfriend. We were having a picnic at the time. They starting the proceedings by throwing some cans at her and telling her to fuck off back to England, etc. It was a fucking nasty little event, involving bottles and knives, and a fair chunk of time in the hospital afterwards. For the 2+ years I was working door in Sauchehall street, I made damned sure to keep my accent neutral as possible, because if I did speak with a vaguely English accent I knew I'd be in for a far more eventful night from the drunks.

I can rattle off a number of incidents from the 20+ years I lived in Scotland of being singled out for sounding too close to English. From these incidents i developed a strong personal belief that there is an anti-english racist streak in a significant proportion of Scots, often based around some very dodgy grasp of back history. Are you seriously telling me you've never heard someone being called out as a guffy cunt, or similar?

Quartz is living in Aberdeen, and though I've never met him I could well believe he's been on the receiving end of verbal. Or worse.

Yet I was never on the receiving end of anti Scottish abuse while I lived in England, oh no, my mistake. It fucking happens both ways unfortunately. You can get twats anywhere.

Btw Inverurie is/was bandit country and hubby knows plenty of Aberdonians who have had kickings or verbal there too :(
And I'm not sure I would take the copper's word for anything either :(

I've yet to be on the receiving end of actual violence, but I've been the target of sneers, derogatory comments, and the like.

I had to look it up, must be a highlandism.
Sorry you've had so many people being cunts to you Lemon Eddy

Cunts will be cunts. They seize on whatever excuse they find best serves them. I love Scotland, married a scot, children born there, yadda...but I have repeatedly seen racism towards English people. I've seen it in random acts of violence, verbal abuse, and more alarmingly in a national narrative that tends to define all Scottish history where every act of villainy was perpetrated by the English. The Jacobite uprising is held up as an example of Scotland trying to overthrow English oppression, with no reference to either Catholicism, the role of Scottish nobles in the Act of Union, or anything else. Hell, Aberdeen was a safehold for Cumberland, but you don't hear anything about the schism in Scotland, and Scottish regiments fighting against the House of Stuart.

Please take a minute and look at your response? The police make stuff up. And lots of bad things happen in that place. And worse happened to me somewhere else. So clearly there's not a problem.

Seriously?

Yeah...well they don't shoot coloured people like the English ones do, or the Americans or many, many other nations (whatever that colour may be). There are issues with violence and racism all over the world.

Scotland isn't awash with either. No-one is casting us as a perfect people.

The proof's in the pudding. Promote independence to confirm your argument :)

I lost a chunk of hair and narrowly missed getting 20 bags kicked out of me in Guildford by a 6ft brick shithouse bloke a fair few years back. Only the bar staff in the pub stopped me getting a right doing. My crime.. Scottish accent and refusing to bite when a blokey bloke started in with the verbals. I turned away and next thing I know I'm being thrown around by the hair narrowly missing size 10s aimed at me. I'm a 5' 5" woman.

In the 20 years I lived in various areas down South I took shit on an almost weekly basis. Fuckwits all over.

General suggestion. If your defence is "It may have happened, but worse things happened elsewhere"...you don't actually have a defence.

I don't need a defence.

I hear some vague eye-witness accounts with no context with which to provide proof that Scotland is worse than anyplace else.
