  1. The UK Armed forces have a history of recruitment in Scotland which has permitted Scottish recruits to travel and see the world. After a Yes vote this will cease.
No it won't. If a Scots lad or lassie wants to join the British Army, they'll be free to do so. The Army as it currently stands accepts recruits from the Commonwealth countries (and the Republic of Ireland E: and Nepal), and the rUK one won't turn down Scots recruits post-indy ffs.

Scottish independence: 1m voters sign declaration in favour of yes vote

"[Yes Scotland boss] Blair Jenkins confirmed that Friday morning's total of 1,001,186 signatures had been checked against the electoral register".

"The Scottish electorate for September's referendum is about 4.2 million people. If turnout reaches 80%, as many – including Salmond – now confidently predict it will, this translates into 3.36m votes".

What the media seem to be missing is that 1/4 of the total electorate have bothered to sign a declaration. When has that ever happened before? Which political movement has enthused a 1/4 of the electorate to sign something like that? Can anyone name one?

It's a huge number of verified people.

According to the Electoral Management Board for Scotland (EMB), as at 1st August 2014, there are 4,166,683 registered electors on the electoral roll in Scotland.

Let's call that 4.2 million, like the Guardian. So, 29.79% of the expected turnout of 3.36m voters have already signed a declaration they'll vote Yes. If that 3.36m turnout is right, only 678,815 more Yes votes are needed on the day for a majority.

There are 3 Yes voters in this house, 2 of whom have not signed.

Someone on facebook has pointed out that the Scottish Covenant for Home Rule got 2 million when the electorate was 5.1 million.

I'm rapidly falling into "I don't give a shit about the result" territory, quite frankly. A non-independent form of independence on one side, and on the other, well, people don't like change.

I haven't signed it either.

Loved the bit where a voice said to a squaddie "If it's a YES vote you'll be fucked!" Squaddie replied. "No we'll no, we're a Scottish regiment" and shows his cap badge before his mate huckles him away. :D:D:facepalm:

Trust Spud Murphy? Nae chance. Wastemonster can find a Wallet filling job for him after Indyref Yes.

Newsnet

Labour MP Jim Murphy “played a leadership role” organising opposition parties, including the ScottishTories, in a Unionist campaign against an independence referendum in 2009, according to secret documents made available by Wikileaks.

The documents, compiled by a senior US official at the US Embassy in London, reveal that Mr Murphy was in charge of organising a coalition of Unionist parties whose aim was to block an independence referendum and instead move Scotland towards acceptance of the proposals outlined in the Calman Commission.
The documents, compiled by US official Richard LeBaron, indicate that Murphy’s own advisers and opposition party leaders confirmed his role to the Americans. The documents also show that US officials believed that Alex Salmond had called Wesminster’s bluff by urging the acceleration of the new Calman powers and that London’s ‘stalling’ had strengthened the hand of the SNP.

The documents state: “Throughout 2009, UK Secretary of State for Scotland Jim Murphy played a leadership role in organizing the opposition parties, hoping to move Scotland toward implementation of the Calman recommendations as an alternative to an independence referendum, according to Murphy's advisors, Labour party insiders, and opposition party leaders.

I've watched the Murphy video now and I really hope the yes side win because if they don't this is NOT going to go away. I really think it's got the potential to get very very ugly :(

I'm pretty sure the yes will win in September. I think still feel it'll be a sad day for the UK and Scotland though. We'll miss you, Scotland, Wales and the North of of England have a very influence in electoral terms. Without Scotland the social conscience of the rest of the UK will be diminished.

Sorry to see you go, it'll make our battles so much harder :(

So you're criticising him for doing his job?

We're not going anywhere. I'll still fight the injustices dished out by Wastemonster after Indy as I do now.

The people in that vid are sick and tired of bitters waffling pish at them and calling 'bullying, angry Nats' when challenged. So am I. Hardly surprising they keep their meetings behind closed doors with application to attend only.

Unfortunately yours views will be about as relevant as an irrelevant thing. No-ones gonna care about the voice of foreign citizens in our domestic affairs.

Turn the tables, do you think that my English voice will count a jot to an independent Scottish nation state. I would be about as relevant as me fight the rise of right in European nation states, I despise but other than say so I can't actually make any difference to it.
