Dunno about teh elephant ears. There's black ones (which look purplish). There's Yunnan ones which have dark markings. There's all different ones by the looks of it. Maybe they change colours? Who knows? Maybe gentlegreen?

Could it be a dwarf banana plant? There's one with Maurelli (or is it Musa or maybe both) that has a purplish tinge. I nearly bought one on Saturday but remembered that it wasn't winter hardy. There's one that's hardier than that particular one. Can't think at the moment. I've been bleaching my concrete and the bleach has watered my brain down I think

I think coz I'm spending money on the house and she sees that as sensible so she wants to add a little bit to help... any spares or anything will certainly come your way if you want? I've got 4 umbrella plant cuttings that I took when I dug up the big old one that I had, don't suppose I'll need all of those, when they are ready to pot I'll let you know

Well, wierd shit in my life aside, my mum gave me a couple of plants today, an elephant ear and some sort of dwarf banana, also my lights for the pond arrived

Tbf, I don't care what colour they are (or indeed if they're screened instead of painted) just so long as they're not breeze block coloured breeze blocks.
I only said white because the brick next to them was already painted white and I didn't want to make his list even longer by suggesting he paint BOTH the walls a completely different colour.

I'm quite happy to make his list even longer. The longer the better. I'm enjoying watching his progress.

So you could put it on stilts then. It's quite simple you know. You know you want to do it.

I reckon it'll look nice with a Minangkabau style roof
