Wildlife Ponds... Now Total Garden Rebuild

Good day today, nice to have a break from digging :D

My little wall, never done anything like it before so pretty pleased with my brick/block laying, not perfect but good enough for me. nice curves to reflect the path by the pond

Looking back at the house you can see the curves and the open area on the right where I got rid of a large shrub, nice and open for new plants in a larger border

Tired at the end of the day, I've been sitting in this spot at lot when I have a break and am thinking I'd like a little sitting stone here to sit and take the garden in from, not sure if it'll fit in the space though

Can't you fit a nice rock there that you can sit on? Or have a little rockery where you can plant the ferns and sit amongst them?

Or a choped up tree trunk/log?

There's going to be a rock wall/cliff from ground level at the left of the pond rising up to about 18 inches/ 2 foot on the right where the waterfalls will be and then back down as it comes towards you in that view. I should be able to do it but wont know until I start building it

Waterfalls? Cliffs? Blimey Mumbles, you're really going for it! You're making my efforts look lazy :D:oops:

Yours is much bigger though :D

well i say cliff, but only a cliff if you're a frog

I found 4 today as I was sorting that border, can't wait to see one sat on the edge of my pond

There was a gardening programme on earlier on Channel 5 and they were doing some guy's garden pond. He'd put granite blocks round it but nothing else to help the wildlife in and out of the pond, so they shoved a tree trunk in to help the little froggies. :D

Lol, i'll have a decent sized shallow end with easy access for the froglets, more a beach type affair I hope

I tell you, I'm bloody shattered though, been 3 days solid on top of last week, not used to working hard like this!!!!!

I had a day off today (other than going to Homebase) and I think all my hard work is done now. Reckon I was spending 6-9 hours a day on it last week though, so quite relieved all the horrible stuff is done. I'm hoping I don't come across more pallets on my wanders as I'll know I'll find it hard to resist dragging them home

I reckon I've got 2 more days of hard work and then it's onto less taxing stuff.

I'm back to work next week after 7 weeks off with depression, and I can heartily recommend gardening to improve mood. I have been beating the blues with greens... although there aren't any greens in the garden at the mo, you know what I mean!!! Anyway, work will be limited to my weekends without the girls and evenings but I'm hoping that weekend after next I'll be ready to lay the path, maybe the rockwork round the pond if I can source the rocks (not proving as simple as it sounds for some reason) and 2 weeks after I hope to do the decking, I've got a mate that will help me with that so should be done over 2 days

Onwards and downwards :D

You need to start eating greens. You'll have to fit in an allotment somewhere :D

You might be right, although I did have a healthy pasta salad yesterday so it's not all been batchelor pizzas, just sometimes :D

I'm really struggling with the digging now, my back is aching as soon as I start, it's not just the digging, it's the shifting the dirt either in bags or a large pot that I've been using to fill and move it. I'm down to about 2 and half foot now, so not much more to do, then a little shaping of margin shelves so I might just do a little more today and then rest my body for the afternoon. No point breaking myself to do it!!

Haven't you got something on wheels to roll the sacks around on to save your back?

No, I'm only moving them a short distance at the moment, I think the worst of the back ache has been caused by lifting in and out the car to take to dump but I'm at a stage where I'm gonna keep hold of any dirt I dig out now for using round the back of the pond once that's built. I've been very careful to lift with a straight back and use bent legs too but I guess it's still a lot of strain

I got one of those little round plant movers on wheels last week as I was breaking my back trying to move those big planters from one side of the garden to the other (a grand total of around 9ft!). Actually, I'd been dragging them across the concrete and saw bits of broken pot where I'd dragged them, so realised dragging them wasn't a good idea

This was my garden 3 weeks ago

it's bachelor :p
(not batchelor)

Lol

how do you spell eledgible? ;)

see, that's because you're thinking about ledges in your pond

I vow to hoover my place tomorrow now I've got everything done. There's soil over all the carpets/lino and leaves everywhere. It's a right mess, but like you, been too knackered to do any housework
