Wildlife Ponds... Now Total Garden Rebuild

Gonna be even more of a tease because I've decided to seal the mortar as previous advice I got seems to be mistaken and it is better to seal it to stop leaching. So have done the first of 3 coats and then it needs aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to cure.. will prob need a draining and refilling too, at least partially... bit frustrating but better to know it's done right and safe for fishemies

Just seen this thread and spent the last 40 minutes reading through - this is awesome and looks fantastic, can't wait to see the end result. Good effort Mumbles and HB for the other day!

Not fair. I've not teased anyone. Anyway, this is a progress thread, so we're supposed to see everything, including watching the mortar dry :D

Bit pushed for time right now so just gonna post pics and let them do the talking.. basically, have3 got plants for the pond :D

my girls have had a swim :) too cold for me! Should be able to get a shot from upstairs tomorrow when scaffolding comes down :)

Woohoo, water!

What's the plant with the red sword-like leaves next to the "Fred's Pond" sign?

Just noticed your banana plant. I think that's the one that's not as hardy as the musa basjoo green-leafed one which is why I avoided buying one a couple of weeks ago

I think it's a cordyline, not sure about the banana plants hardiness.. will look at label tomorrow

looking forward to my other plants arriving :)

Few more pics, the waterfall is on now, minor issues with a slight leak have been resolved... water clearing slowly after adding the plants yesterday

to be honest, i want to do something with them, not sure what yet.. was just sat out there contemplating painting it white to match the rest of the wall and house, but think it will be too harsh. Other main thing I've considered is a natural cane screen against the wall, or a trellis type thing with a climber growing on it

Looking fantastic Mumbles. Now what are you going to do with that white wall?

And where's your nice tropical flowers?

I saw a nice creeper the other day that was red and orange (or it was have been red and yellow). Was called Spanish something or other.

I thought you were going to have your thinking seat at the other end. Doesn't look like you've got any space now anyway.

You keeping your shed blue?

Might give it a fresh coat of paint.. if I can be bothered, there is a small bit of wall on the other side that needs painting too, so if I'm doing that might as well do both sides.

As for flowers, gonna see how the structure beds in for a while first, still got the shadey side to fill, got a couple of bits for that side but need more. Gonna look for some nice climbers like clematis too, I know not really tropical but if I can find an evergreen one I like I think I'll be ok with some regular plants filling out areas.

The thinking seat is still there, just a bit of a squeeze to get into :D the girls manage ok though!!!

Blue shed? Yeah, not gonna change that for now, kinda used to it and it does give that visual distance thing, would be worried any other colour would come forward too much, the greens look nice against it too.

Here's a pic I took last night with a slow shutter speed
