White civil rights leader has pretended to be black for years

And then there was Paul McCArtneys ex who basically made up lies about her entire life. Wasnt there stuff like Olympic ski champion, running away to join the circus etc, in her biog. i remember a girl at school making up fabulous lies and being found out, but thats the sort of thing you'd hope to grow out of by the time you are 12.

i don't know why. britain's produced some world-class liars like jeffery archer, who can hold their own with any of their foreign competitors.

Rutita1, thanks for setting the record straight. For some reason, my screen display appeared to link my original post to your reply to Pickyman. Unless I was imagining it?
do you think it makes you look good, big and clever to piss about with usernames? or do you realise it makes you look a stunted little man?

Having read some of the read-up for this woman in the OP linked article, it occurred to me that there might be some method to the apparent madness. Given her academic and civil rights background - could it be that this woman is performing some sort of social experiment i.e. the only way for a white person to truly know what a black person's day-to-day experience is like, is to become 'black' themselves?

Give it a rest

Yes it probably is a little childish, but no less childish than a poster who goes around forums arguing the toss for no good reason, whilst also trying to win imaginary brownie points. And yes, I am talking about you... Picky ;)

Have fun.
Seems like both yourself and Pickman's model are pretty short on words when it comes to disagreeing with/dismissing another person's views/opinions. That's pretty poor form imo given that this is supposed to be a forum for discussion, and not necessarily for rude-boys who like to dismiss others with the odd word her and there.

before you bring an argument about your inability to substantiate your arguments onto this thread perhaps you might acquaint yourself with the faq, in particular the injunction against pissing about with usernames and the ban on taking arguments from one thread to another.

I'm sure there must also be an faq on being an insufferable pedant within your posts, which in itself serves to stifle discussion. If not, then there probably should be.

As for substantiating arguments... I wasn't aware that this was a prerogative within online discussion boards, especially when a person is merely expressing an opinion. Or perhaps I'm wrong, and that's also part of your much loved faq's? Either way, you sure know how to make a newbie feel welcome and all :hmm:

Wrong smiley - cunt.

Gender is as much of a construct as race is.
I agree. You only have to look at different perceptions of women based on their appearance i.e. not wearing make-up and high heels etc., which is then interpreted as being less attractive or sexy.

Also, is a woman who has dyed blonde hair as much of a 'fraud' as a woman who pretends to be 'black'?

There is something wrong with the whole story that I can't put my finger on. The parents who knew she was 'pretending' to be black but have been estranged for x years and are only now talking about it, the brother who is willing to pretend to be her son and ignore her deception (if we believe the story) whose actual parents seem oddly unconcerned they don't know the whereabouts of, but eager to claim him if it discredits her, the black man who came to an event as her father, the mysterious threatening letters that she may have posted to herself. Whole thing doesn't add up somehow.

I almost expect it to be something simple- her mum had an affair with a black man and they while fuck up is one of those families lying to themselves things. But even that doesn't make much sense with the current information. It's all a bit bizarre

I agree with her/him. As far as I understand it, sex is about biology. I'm not sure that's a matter of perspective
Well, the argument I saw was that saying gender is socially constructed is exclusionary because for trans people it is innate.

Adds up totally. Con women brought up by christian missionaries goes to black college, exploits weaknesses. Family she has fought with cut off contact.

Who says 'brother who is willing to pretend to be her son' was willing- she dragged in some other bloke and pretended he was her dad.

Oddly concerned? From where did you get this?

What actually have you questioned here? All the things not covered above could be her - couldn't they?

I think the parents adopted 4 black children and she gained custody of the oldest, so maybe legally it is true that he is her son.
