White civil rights leader has pretended to be black for years

I posted something I didn't mean to, twice! It was a reply to butchersapron (from much earlier in the thread) about whether or not she had used the word transracial to describe herself, with a quote from the transcript of the Today Show interview. But I'd misunderstood what she was saying, so my point didn't hold water.

Ah, gotcha.

so, can i self-identify as 'tall'?

is 'transheight' a thing now, because i reckon that the tall kids are always cooler than the short kids, and that tall people people tend to get better jobs that short people, and they tend to be seen as more attractive, so i want to be seen as tall.

i'm sure there must be some tall people in my family tree (bush), so its not like i want to identify as a unicorn or something...

White people getting away with taking advantage of anti-discrimination processes (a very few); white people portraying themselves as black and living their version of "the black life" (fewer still). Certainly not something that deserves that much thought imo.

This is obviously discounting the possibility of a wider insurrection.

I want to know about this case with her brother. Is the unnamed child the one she has adopted as her own? Are her parents simply trying to protect her biological brother or is she the one who has lied here?

I haven't watched the interview with her yet and from the reactions here it's probably gonna annoy me...I am though really taken with 'when' she started to masuerade as a Black woman. It clearly wasn't when she was suing Howard Uni for discrimination because she was White. Her husband, well he clearly didn't like her mimicking either.

You know what, if she was coming at this as a thing she did to protect herself and the kid because of prejudice or to make a new life for them because of the past (her brother's sexual abuse etc) I would find her a little more believable.

The issues in what I am seeing at the moment is someone who has identified with Black people and the 'struggle' , felt comfortable as a White woman (because of her family background) to identify with, have relationships with Black people, study at a historically Black university, etch out a name for herself, clearly work hard to gain the position and trust she did but she did that by also concocting an absolutely ugly backstory that draws on the real life trauma of others. It's like she has studied this stuff and now she thinks she owns it. It didn't happen to her and to say it did is the biggest insult to injury. She is unapologetic and keeps piling it on.

I have some thoughts on this 'manipulating of her adoptive son and encouraging anti-White racism' in him...I am gonna hold on to them for now to let them settle...

Found an article on bustle.com that claims she was divorced in 2004 and her brother says he first noticed a change in her around 6 years ago.

Am on phone so can't post a link but googling 'rachel dolezal divorce' brings up the article as about the 5th or 6th hit on the first page.

Article also ponders if her allegations about her ex husband being abusive towards their son are factually correct in light of other evidence.

Interview:

1:35...Asked whether she identified as Black at aged 16 (see pic)...answered no. Kinda blows the 5 year old identified story out of the window.

At around 6:00 in the interview...she explicitly says that she can't be seen as White and Iziah's mum.... She says her 'Black' identity solidified when she got full custody of him.

Her 'dad'...approached her...'any man can be a father, not every man can be a dad' No mention of the backstory she created for him.

She has no idea whether she could have been as successful at the NAACP if she was being honest and not maquerading as a Black woman.

Her son thinks; 'Racially you are human and culturally you are Black.'
