What's your work status now? Back at work? Furloughed? Working from home? Or bugger all?

Are you back at work?

For myself, I'm ultra-briefly back on 'Special Leave' (a CS thing! ;) ) tomorrow, Thursday 27th.

A lot of people are coming back to us this week, next week too, but the desk-screening instalments are not finished everywhere yet :(

So I'll get an extra lie-in!! <first-world non-problems  ;) :D >

TLDR: I think the furlough scheme should always have allowed a degree of flexibility, so I don't think my boss is particularly exploiting me (any more than usual :hmm: ), but as long as it lasts, there isn't a hope of me getting off it, as it (the scheme) will be exploited to the max...

It turns out that a 20% salary drop is the difference between existing & 'living' for me, which would be easier to bear if I could see an end in sight. (And was actually ok in full lockdown when I had more time to devote to subsistence living, which I kind of knew from past experiences)

Could be worse...

They are being cunts. It's one thing to let the government pay your staff 80% of their salary when there is no work or they cant work but to not only let the government pay 80% of their salary while still making them work but also make them work while not paying them the 20% shortfall is an absolute piss take.

It's also illegal, the furlough rules are that the furlough money is for people sat at home not working and specifically bans them from working. Obviously it takes a brave person to dob their employer in which is what a lot of the cunts are taking advantage of.

Instead of encouraging and paying for proper wfh and staying legal ...

Still on furlough, though I got an e-mail today to say they'd be calling me in next week for an individual meeting with HR. Never been made redundant before, so I have no idea what to expect.
If anyone on here has any tips or things you think I should know, I would be delighted to hear them.

Ref redundancy - Look up the info on .gov.uk, so you know your entitlements to notice & the payments required.
Try and negotiate for extra money or make an offer to stay on, say p/t or stay wfh ...
If you've been on furlough, there are some rewards for keeping people on after the scheme ends.

Did do a couple of work related things yesterday which meant getting a train ! 1st train journey since March . Only the 3rd time since March I have visited my 'patch' , still no office action though.

Still fucked. Have applied for some jobs but there's very little that I'm qualified for/can actually do/won't burn me out in 2 weeks/doesn't involve me driving to somewhere remote. I've been looking today at jobs in my hometown thinking maybe going down to Ma and Pa Mogden during the week might be a better option and work out something for the cats. That's a bit extreme!

:(

Applied for 20 jobs this week. Looking within a 100 mile radius now as I can always get a hotel / digs if it’s too far. In the process of selling house so once it’s gone I can easily relocate.

One virtual interview has led to a face to face second interview.

A question of throwing enough mud til something sticks. I’ve never had an issue finding work until Covid hit. Having what I guess was a nervous breakdown (marriage ended and getting out of that abusive relationship, mother having chemo as her cancer has spread, losing a close friend who turned on me suddenly and a general lack in confidence in myself) hasn’t helped.

however feel like I’m coming out of the fog and will keep buggering on as what else can I do eh

Keep buggering on, mate.

My wifes company is making noises that suggest they'll be closing their current offices and and getting a far smaller place to do hot desking for the 15% or so who still want to come in now and again.

Meanwhile I may actually have a 2 day job next month if the event doesn't get cancelled.

and what's more after last week, head of department (who really doesn't understand what i do or how i do it) suggested this monday that after the hours i did last week, i should take a day or two off this week.

most amusing.

normal service might be resumed this week...

Update - since the start of August I've had 1-3 days work per week, which is more or less in line with my official furlough status (furloughed 3 days per week, working 2 days). And seen the resultant slight rise in my August paycheck - 2 days @ 100% salary, 3 at furlough rate.

So June & July were irregular -though tbf if it was legal at that point to part-time furlough us, I think they would actually have done that. But before the part-time rules kicked in, the only option was to take a few people off furlough completely, and there was a cut-off point where you couldn't restart people onto furlough. So I think they were trying to keep their (& our) options open.

& yes the 20% top-up would've been much appreciated! I guess it might been another quandary though - a 20% sweetener for rule-breaking is basically an open bribe.

The more worrying thing is that the work seems to be dropping off rather than picking up - I thought by now we'd have enough to fill 4 days a week, but there just isn't (hence redundancies though not yet in my team).

So I've changed my tune a bit - if there's only half a job for us to do, then I hope the furlough scheme is extended past October until things pick up again - I'd rather (as a team) we are all on part-time furlough than lose one of us to redundancy...

Separate note - I assume companies have to prove at some point, that their drop in turnover is Covid related? April & May are easy for us, as we had complete shutdown. Since then - who can really say?

It's starting to get iffy for this moderately overweight 60 year old - 9 weeks back on site and the clients are starting to trickle back next week so a massively increased risk of exposure unless I manage to do what needs to be done out of hours.
Up until now, for an indoor workplace, I have been very fortunate in that regard.

It's now 6 weeks since I applied for my pension statement and they said "6 to 8 weeks", but due to holiday I haven't taken, doubtless I would be let go in under 4 weeks ...
I will stick it out until I no longer feel useful (most other colleagues are most usefully deployed on the phones) - but I will definitely be gone before the clocks change - hopefully before it's so consistently dark that the blinding light show and general arseholery on the cycle routes gets properly going again.

Once I have the pension statement, I will consult with senior colleagues...
