What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Saturday we had some Chicken Kievs I got from the butcher with Italian herbed roast potatoes & roast aspergers.

Sunday was venison steaks with couscous + homemade harissa, olives and feta.

Had a request for meatballs and pasta tonight. Last one I made was a mixture of pork and beef and was a bit bland, just beef but will add lots of garlic and pepper this time. Any other suggestions to perk it up?

Collecting a massive bag of rib eye steak this afternoon

With my meatball mixture I add some chopped shallot, garlic, salt, pepper, chilli powder, fresh basil and a bit of fresh thyme. A splash of Worcestershire sauce sometimes. If I do that, I don't add as much salt.

That sounds good, I have all of that to hand, cheers.

Mrs R has to take food into work tomorrow lunchtime for a do so it'll be a massive batch. I have my suspicions that she passes my food off as her own efforts :hmm::D

How do you cook yours out of interest? Fried or in with the sauce?

some sort of vegi curry feast. currently planned:

squash and chickpeas in a coconut sauce
bhindi bhaji (or maybe a aubergine one, depending on what needs using up first when i have a look in the fridge)
tarka dhal
something between a cucumber raita and a tzatziki
onion bhajis
cumin rice
chapatis
some sort of salad / salsa type thing

Spaghetti and meatballs is my favourite food of all time . I would add some breadcrumbs to the meat mix, parsley, finely diced onion, garlic, mixed herbs and parmesan cheese. Today i read that the addition of toasted fennel seeds will add an aromatic anise. Mmm.....must try that! let us know how they go.

left over party food from yesterday  I have enough for both lunch & dinner! So potato salad, with dahl and chapati for lunch. And for dinner, a slightly odd, bitty (but yummy) mix of curry, chicken wings & jamblamba (erm...jamba - can't spell the rest!) - to which I will add some fresh veg.

Have you had the one which is chunky tomato, slices onion with vinegar and red chilli powder. Very simple but so fucking tasty!

No, but I might give it a whirl as I got a fair few tomato's knocking about and i like the sound of the vinegar. Mine normally revolve around onions, cucumber, tomatos, coriander, mint and lemon juice depending on what's in the fridge / garden.

I'll also be trying a dash of vinegar in the dhal (as recommended by a couple of people here) just to see what that's like. but which vinegar????

Malt, obvs. *mad* :D

Had an absolutely gorgeous saffron risotto with spring veg yesterday (and leftovers for lunch, nom!). Tonight is either one of two pretty boring things - baked spudz/cheez/beanz, or pesto pasta and black olives. Payday tomorrow

I wanted to cook something I've never tried before -- I'm gonna do shakshuka.

Interesting - I do a chachouka sometimes but that doesn't have feta in it. Also - there's a fab handy hint about basting your eggs with the mixture, which might be where I go wrong with baked eggs. I always overdo them

I didn't end up making the shakshuka - I realised I had some left-over stir fry in the fridge that needed to be eaten so I had that. And last night I was too tired to cook so my dinner was avocado on toast followed by banana and peaches.

Today's dinner = dhal and roast cauliflower. With more fruit on the side. My housemate brought 8 giant bags of fruit (peaches, grapes, apples, bananas) and they need to be eaten before they go off :cool:

Actually - I really quite fancy poached eggs on beans on cheese on toast now, with a big fat cuppa tea  And some leftover coffee and walnut cake for afters, nom

Oh my god my mrs would hate that. Eggs and beans....never the twain shall meet in her book. On fry ups I have to use sausage barriers to separate them.

I hate beans n mash. Orange mash. Yak.
