What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Well I accidentally got caught up in Wetherspoons last night, thought shit, how did this happen, is now the time? Now the time for the gourmet hot dog that has been tempting me for so long? Alas, it was not the time. It was grill night and an 8oz sirloin steak for £7.49 with a pint was not something I could refuse. So anyway, I ended up having to have my BK at lunch time today as it was Whopper Day, and that's not something you can just refuse.

So tonight, I'm avoiding the local, as I know it's curry night and as we all know, that's not something you can just refuse! ...so I've bought a lovely Tesco Hot Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and chips so I can bask in disappointment as the cheap orange liquid ghee clogs my veins and chokes my spleen.

I am so going to die soon. I need to do something about this shite I keep ending up eating. So.....about this hippy food? :hmm: How does one go about procuring it and how does one also go about avoiding the nasty flavours and ridiculous textures that seem to prevail with such items?

how long do you fry chickpeas for? Do you mean you do the whole soaking overnight palava, then boil them up to cook them, then fry them at the end?
I roasted chickpeas once, in olive oil and cumin. That was nice

Yep, soak 24 hours, then I generally simmer them for an hour and a quarter (with salt in), drain, sit for a while, coat them in the seasoning and just fry until a) they're hot, and b) until the coating has the amount of crispiness that I like :)

I squish them a bit during frying to increase the surface area taking up the flavouring too. :)

Stir-fried / braised red onion, white cabbage, tomatoes, pointy pepper, mushrooms, plus yesterday's baked potato fried with shoyu. Served with tahini and tanari and washed down with St Emilion.
Nutritious but probably rather overly-calorific.
Yesterday's leftovers - 24 hours of consolidating the flavours, jazzed-up by adding more fried potato

I had a bit of a picky tea - a few slices of black pudding - hot - some potted shrimps - warmed through - a half a barmcake, a bit of salad and some potatoes - cold. To be shortly washed down with a pint of mild.
If I was in in Spain, that'd be tapas. Yes siree.
Seeing as I'm in Lancashire, it's just a bit of a scratty picnic in front of the Coronation St. :D

Going out for street food for tea tonight. Then beers outside. I am planning on getting tofu on a stick, and a special pancake/omelette thing.

We were havin a conflab in office this mornin about food that goes with sunny days were havin at moment. someone mentioned crepes and it set us all of one, so were all of out on our dinner hour ta get fillings for em. Im gonna go for fresh british strawberries fer mine and vanilla ice cream. Oh an a got a jar of rowse creamy fudge sauce at home in cupboard ta pour on top.

I always squish whatever beans I'm using in a sauce (or curry/soup or whatever) to give it a bit of extra body in the liquid  Mmmm chickpeas. They're one of those foods that always give me a serious high after eating too - like a massive mellowness comes upon me  Home-made gnocchi gives the same sort of feeling.

Anyhoo, we ended up having quorn chicken fajitas last night instead, cos the fella's off out to a meeting later, and we need a quick tea - veggie hotdogs for tonight

Jumbo scampi and gorgeous chips with PEAS!!!

They're probably shit and totally unethical but I CBA to cook tonight - it's a-open-a-bag-and-stick-it-in-the-oven-tea

I've now definitely eaten everything in the house so tonight it's going to be the mince salad I've been avoiding for so long, topped with a bit of melted cheese. With some Heinz beef broth to dip it in.

That looks nice! Not had fish n' chips for ages, and have some in buried in the freezer. Might have to rethink my muffin plan...:)

I had two blocks of spicy tofu on sticks, a wrap with egg, sausage and a sort of fish stick in spicy sauce, a sausage on a stick, green peppers on sticks in spicy seasoning and an ice cream.

Fresh mackerel with a salad of tomato, onion, cucumber, chilli and coriander. Very summery and delicious.
Actually, it was more like a salsa than a salad, as I've got some new knives and I went to town a bit, seeing how finely I could chop the veg. I must have got thirty wafer thin slices out of one tomato. Never managed that before. My new knives are pretty cool.
