What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Made a big batch of ragu yesterday with the intention of using some of it for a lasagne, but when the time came I discovered I only had 3 sheets of lasagne :(
I made a pasta bake with it instead, with loads of cheese on the top. It was very nice, but not quite as good as the lasagne would have been!

Takeaway curry tonight, or possibly some takeaway food from the village pub if we fancy what's on offer today (they're doing a couple of different options every day).

Hello pogo 10, long time no see.
Hope you're doing OK.

We went for an Indian takeaway in the end last night. Pre-ordered it around 4.30 for a 6.15 delivery.
When they confirmed the order they said they would deliver it at 6.45. It arrived at 8
It was lukewarm, the portions seemed smaller than usual, but it was still very tasty.

Tonight it's jacket potatoes with the leftovers from last night (prawn dhansak for me).

Chicken casserole for me, quorn sausage casserole for him. Leftover yorkshire pud and a couple of roast spuds, I'll make some mash too.

Am going to see if I can get around to making that cherry and apple crumble for afters (I know I know, I don't normally do pudding, but Nate would usually eat at work and is underweight so I am making a lot more food than usual as we are both at home)

Last of the fresh veggies - will have to shop tomorrow or Monday at the latest ...

red onion
garlic
miso
kelp
dried shitakes
Sprouts
carrots
pointy red pepper
Napolina toms
butter beans
lentil soup

I used to really like the CN on City Rd, when they had a zero rating. And yet I still live
the chinese place? tried it a couple of times but too authentic for my tastes. did you ever try the pangolin? :hmm:

whichever was our kebab shop and meghna balti used to get regularly shut down by environmental health, we'd still be queuing when they reopened for delicious (if deadly) food :D

:D I wasn't a veggie back then so I did have all sorts of odd shit from there, I remember pig cheek (very nice), intestines (OK), trotters (OK as well) and duck tongues in chilli (too spicey for my delicate tastes back then and too many little bones)

I look back, now I'm being kinder to all the little critters, and feel real sorry for all those hundreds of ducks who can't quack properly any more :(🦆

Last night we had Chinese delivery, only two hours after first ordering.
I had crispy chilli beef, rice and spicy chilli chips.
Was good but the place we use never gives free prawn crackers and I think that’s mean.
Tonight was supposed to be roast chicken but half the stuff was missing from my order on Friday including the meat and gravy so who knows. Maybe stuffing and vegetables!

Roast cauliflower biryani, really hit the spot.

What? Have you just typed some random letters?
:D It's Eritrean dhal, using berbere spice. Fucking astoundingly good. I've posted about it loads. Here's the recipe I honed from the 100 or so floating round online!

  • 250g red lentils
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 dsp tomato puree
  • 3 or 4 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 onion
  • 4 tsp berbere spice mix (Seasoned Pioneers do a fantastic one)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 6 cardamon pods
  • Pinch salt
  • Boiling water

Fry onion gently until very soft in plenty of oil.
Add garlic for one minute.
Add berbere spice mix and keep stirring for 4 mins.
Add cumin, cardamon, ginger and stir for 1 more minute.
Add tin toms amd tom puree and stir for another minute.
Add pinch of salt.
Add lentils and mix thoroughly until every lentil coated.
Pour in enough boiling water to cover mixture (and a little bit more so it’s not dry).
Bring to boil, and simmer for 30 mins, stirring every 10 mins.
Serve with basmati rice and a good dollop of sour cream on the side.

Thanks. I have everything apart from the berbere mix, will try to order some.
