What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Expect Trump twitter meltdown

"This single source close to Deutsche Bank has told me that the Trump — Donald Trump's loan documents there show that he has co-signers. That's how he was able to obtain those loans. And that the co-signers are Russian oligarchs," he said.
Damning stuff, if true, but I wonder if it'll stick or if the media - and by extension most of the rest of the world - will get distracted by that oh so predictable Twitter tantrum once more.

It certainly feels like nothing sticks these days. It's just an onslaught of corruption, craziness and crass behaviour... after a while apathy and fatigue set in.

According to comments on this thread the story is at least three years old but because it never made it to major American news outlets (was originally pulished in a Dutch one), no-one in the US paid proper attention.

That would be typical - the information that would really hammer home open links to Russian money (more so than already) has actually been there all along and no one paid attention, so busy were we all condemning him for something else idiotic he's said this time around.

Meanwhile we have Trump skipping the G7. He was asked about the environment yesterday:

Trump, who in 2017 pulled the United States out of the landmark 2015 Paris climate accord involving nearly 200 countries and has described global warming as a “hoax,” also sought to portray himself as an environmentalist at a news conference at the close of the Group of Seven summit in France.

“I feel that the United States has tremendous wealth. The wealth is under its feet. I’ve made that wealth come alive. ... We are now the No. 1 energy producer in the world, and soon it will be by far,” Trump told reporters when asked about his views on climate change.

“I’m not going to lose that wealth, I’m not going to lose it on dreams, on windmills, which frankly aren’t working too well,” he added
.

Trump, on climate, says he won't jeopardize U.S. wealth on 'dreams' - Reuters

In other words, money is more important than any other consideration, including our own survival. Fuck that mentality and fuck him.

Doesn't he understand that 40% of Iowa's power is from wind? And that green jobs are one of the fastest growing parts of the economy? (or, were until Trump.)

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday said he made an “error in judgment” in a report about President Donald Trump’s finances — walking back a story just hours after the president’s attorney threatened a defamation lawsuit.
O’Donnell said his reporting “didn’t go through our rigorous verification and standards process.” In a tweeted statement, he added, “I shouldn’t have reported it and I was wrong to discuss it on the air.”

POTUS’ personal attorney threatened defamation suit over Tuesday night report ... “These statements are false and defamatory, and extremely damaging. The only borrowers under these loans are Trump entities, and Mr. Trump is the only Guarantor. Numerous documents for each of these loans are also recorded, publicly abatable and searchable online
MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell Admits 'Error in Judgment' in Report on Trump Finances After President's Legal Threat

How does a multiple bankrupt not have a guarantor for signing off on loans ?

That's what I thought. I didn't think anyone would think that was a good idea, but it turned out that this idea is common enough that NOAA felt the need to answer why this is a bad idea on their webpage:

TCFAQ C5c) Why don't we try to destroy tropical cyclones by nuking

The original place the idea came from was scientists in the early 60s who suggested it:

Urban75 had this particular conversation some years ago.

Trump's only useful to the dirty digger if he's in power.........

The digger was besties with Thatcher , Blair ,and brown until they weren't , then he wasn't. Et tu brutus ,sport !...there's no political ideology there

Trump administration seeks to deport children with life-threatening illnesses

But the Trump administration recently told families who were granted permission to stay for medical care that their permission to stay has been rescinded and they have 33 days to leave the country. The policy, which was not publicly announced, is being applied retroactively to any requests filed on or before Aug. 7.
...
Families simply received letters telling them they had 33 days to leave.

“They are telling these people they need to leave on their own,” Anthony Marino, director of immigration legal services, said on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” about the families with seriously ill relatives now facing deportation.

“I don’t know how they expect parents to pull their children from hospital beds, disconnect them from lifesaving treatments and go some place where they are know they are going to die," said Marino. "But that is what they are telling them to do.”

I'm sure the NRO/CIA are absolutely *delighted* that Trump posted this picture, never mind the unprompted denial of involvement in the text.

That reads so much like "our stealth bomber/drone/satellite just fucked your precious rocket launch and we know it, we want you to know it, we don't care that you know it, but we'll deny it, chuckling like Muttley, all the way to the Yewwwwnighted Nashuns, so fuck you, towelheads"

Well yeah, that's the text part of it.

Where did that really very high-res image come from is the other part. It's pretty clearly a photo of a photo, so the original res will be higher, plus the photo of the photo is likely compressed a bit uploading to twitter.

Is it a satellite image? Well, the launch location co-ordinates are public domain, and using a bit of trigonometry - the shadows - the time the image was taken can be worked out to within a reasonable margin. Turns out there was a suspected Keyhole bird almost overhead at roughly that position at about the right time. If it *is* a sat photo, then the KH bird is outed - probably not much of a surprise, tbh - but now there's a lower bound on its capabilities . That lower bound is extremely impressive, to say the least. Or, possibly:

Some optics/astronomy types have been pushing back on twitter about it being a sat image. Even from LEO there's still a lot of atmosphere in the way, and they are thinking it's from a platform operating at a lot lower altitude. The launch location is in the north of Iran, and the image is taken from a south-ish aspect, so well inside the country - a couple of hundred miles. So someone got a drone or something over sensitive Iranian airspace without the Iranians doing anything about it? Or knowing about it? Well, that's interesting if that's the case. Or, possibly:

It was imagery supplied by an Iranian source.

*shares raw intel to the world and gets away with it because I'm President and the President can declassify stuff on a whim and suffer no consequences*

(I did make an attempt to link to subject-area experts for loads of that but to be honest I gave up. Hopefully someone who is getting paid to do so is on the case, and also hopefully I've given a decent precis of the situation)

Edit: here's a thread unroll from a pro astronomer, but there's tons of other strands

Thread by @cgbassa: "It's not often that I retweet the US president, but he tweeted this image of the Iranian Safir launch failure. The image is very interesting […]"

Right thing to do. After the centrifuge affair someone is bound to suggest it. Not the only accident in rocket science recently. Not quite the 'we will be having a window' proving handy for Apollo 13, but stopping cosmonauts pissing on the launch bus seems wrong to me. Well done to Chandrayaan-2.

Ets Yes you can glean rather a lot from that photo ..but bolt it together with other publicly available data it is possible to determine that potentially a further more advance generation of spy satellite is in their toy box but you'd be guessing at exact mirror diameter. Oh and the some stuff off the image was redacted.

The timing, look angles, local solar incidence and picture quality (apparent resolution) leave little doubt that it is imagery from, specifically, USA-224 which is a latest generation Keyhole KH-11 'Evolved Enhanced Crystal' imaging satellite. Image analysts have been jailed in the past for leaking Keyhole data.

You can even make out the silhouette of the person who took the shot on the phone (plus reflection of room light source) of the printed classified material that was prepared and presented to them.

Nearly right, the satellite was launched by the now retired Titan program ...There have been launches since by other other rockets in their toy box. .I am not disposed to tell you a key difference with said launch platforms

It is for sure the latest generation Keyhole.

Other electro-optical packages likely periodically ride on the X-37 but won't have the same geographical coverage.

Given the Pentagon doesn't even provide accurate public data on the number of US military bases there are in the world, I find your confidence questionable.
