Saw this today, and it doesn't seem to be on any of the bee ID things I've looked at. Maybe it's not even a bee? It was big, like bigger than a big bumble bee.
With black-and-yellow markings, the hornet mimic hoverfly looks like its namesake, but is harmless to us. This mimicry helps to protect it from predators while it searches for nectar.

I thought that yellow bit between its eyes looked a bit fly-like, it's not on any bees I checked out.
