Despite Starmer's Labour Party's control freakery in seeking to destroy its Labour Left, there will be some Labour MPs newly elected - elected in seats that they know they can't retain at the next General Election - who will think 'fuck it, I've got nothing to lose', and will stick the boot in accordingly.

The timing wasn't right last time but if they can fling her to the wilderness far away enough from an election they got a chance of doing what they did to Corbyn.

It's possible some might. But if Starmer specifically targets more leftish members of the Campaign Group MPs and withdraws the whip from them (with LP majority, they could easily afford to lose/offload them) or deselects them before the next election, they may as well set up their own party with Corbyn. They'd have more MPs than the Greens. Yeah, I know, FPTP and all that, but as elections now seem to be a five horse race anyway, a sixth probably won't make that much difference. Mind you, what do I know? Fuck all about how parliamentary "democracy" in the UK actually works.

The newly elected member for Birmingham Perry Bar is an ex-Lib Dem councillor who got kicked out of the party for saying that reports of the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th were lies.

The new Blackburn MP is a solicitor who appears not to have any policies except for ending global war and abolishing parking charges in Blackburn town centre.

Leicester South’s new MP owns a private healthcare practice and has some bland pledges on his website, such as ‘protect our nhs’ and ‘champion affordable housing’.

The new Dewsbury and Batley MP wants to secure funding for essential services, fight to save the NHS, and tackle the cost of living crisis.

Yeah, i don't think all the independents are necessarily left on labour on anything except Gaza tbh. The ones round here were running against LTN traffic measures primarily. The pro Gaza independent only got a handful of votes.

There is the greens' wind farm opposition in one seat which did seem to me to be a bit of nimbyism tbh (and I'm a bit concerned about what Labour's plans mean for the countryside and special conservation sites etc) it didn't make any sense to me why they would be against it when underground pylons would damage the environment even more.

I'm guessing that wasn't the reason though given he's probably no stranger to nimbyism and counter productive 'environmental' stunts? So I'm interested to see what it is.

Even a 2-bed flat (which would be small, TBH - her staff would probably stay over sometimes too) could very easily be £30k a year. That's £2.5kpm, really not an unusual rental cost at all in London.

The staff costs would be higher than usual because she was also a shadow minister, but it could well be five staff on £27k, or four on £34k, or 3 on £45k.

None of the other costs sound ridiculous either.

Don't think the scandal is gonna be pays ordinary rent and employs necessary staff on ordinary wages.

The cost effective thing to do would be for us to build or buy/refurbish accomodation for MPs to use - it could be made fit for purpose, and not too luxurious, nor too spartan, within easy travel distance to parliament, and properly managed, transparent finances, all essential services, eg internet, provided, and any rent charged can be minimal and standard, just to cover actual costs. For the tax payer it's a property investment and it should save us a fair wack every year in MPs expenses.

Can I suggest using that barge that they have asylum seekers on? Can tie it up outside the HoC to save on mooring costs.
