desert boots, i reckon. if you nip into clarkes tomorrow, they might have some of the originals range left for under 50 quid (they do in the preston branch anyway). otherwise, a nice pair of brogues.

I recently got a black pair, and they aren't that nice. I got them secondhand, but they are in good condition. The shape, particularly the heel and sole around the edges, is a bit bulky. I might use them as a walking boot at some point, but I wouldn't be seen dead wearing them with chinos or walking into a some club in central London. Maybe for the cheap dive clubs in Preston but we are posher down south.

you wouldn't wear black shoes with chinos either way, I hope.

FFS. What's wrong with that? Are you trying to confuse me because you know I'm an easy victim, having little fashion sense?

Anyway, I guess I will look more at Chelsea boots from what I have seen in this thread. My only reservation being I am not sure if they will go with some of the slimmer jeans I have. I went to Oxford street and Regent street tonight, and didn't see anything that nice. If anyone has suggestions on the best places to buy chelsea boots I'd be interested.

By the way does anyone think this shoe is particularly ugly? I only like it (a bit) because it reminds me of a similar styled black boat shoe I had, but which I couldn't get again because the company stopped making them.

I bought my current pair from Clerks and they look like a chelsea boot.

Having established myself as a fashion authority by first suggesting chelsea boots, I have a feeling I may have now blown it... :D

I like these.

Hmmm. Not a fan of the upturned toe.

It's curry, for your information.

See, I couldn't tell my favourite food and I usually have 10+ pairs of shoes/trainers on the go.
Don't take this the wrong way but maybe just look around and notice what people are wearing. People dressing in a certain way that you like. Use that for inspiration. :)

That never works for me. I start looking at all the rest of their attire and it goes downhill from there.

and no, don't wear black shoes with chino's.

no, it just looks shit. If you want a shoe that goes with chinos and jeans, they need to be brown.

You want me to wear the same colour as shit on my feet just so the shoe can go with chinos and jeans. I have never heard such bollocks in my life. Black goes with everything, and I like dark blue chinos as well. Brown and dark blue - no thanks.

What are you numpties on about telling me that black doesn't go with chinos and jeans?? A shit coloured chelsea boot. You're having a fooking laugh.

chelsea boots are shit anyway. i wouldn't get them any colour.

and whoever told you black goes with everything was thick, or taking the piss.

I think you're taking the piss. A Preston boy recommending me shit coloured boots to go with chinos.

And you recommended desert boots. These also look awful with trousers. Maybe jeans, but you're having a laugh to call them versatile. Particularly with the shape of the Clarks ones.

brown goes with more than black does, you loon.

I would even have settled for these or these which aren't too pretty (especially with the huge heels), but would have been versatile enough. But instead I have ordered these which were reduced. I don't care much about the brand name. I just hope it isn't too "streamlined". I bought a pair of boots a couple of months back which wouldn't have went with anything apart from slim jeans. I returned them. Anyway, I have only seen the ones I just bought in that photo, so I'll keep you all posted chaps - Okey-dokey.

Anything that is made of good leather and in a classic style and colour would do. Fashion shoes date so their life is relatively limited. A classic Oxford toe cap, works for everything.

I agree, but with a limited budget there isn't much out there. Looking at boots on the usual websites for around the £60 mark is shocking. So many of them are awful. It's like they make them to be horrible - including massive plastic looking heels which are no good to me as I am already tall. Anyway, I might be taking these ones back then going searching for more so if you have a better suggestion let me know.

Thanks. Even that info is good for me. I am fashion clueless - and I think I'm not the only one in this thread.
