Visiting the west coast in August - midge mayhem?

And last night - no midgies whatsoever. Was fishing in the shadow of Quinag until virtually dark and not one in sight.

I'm trying hard to work another week off before the end of September. Work is owe me more than enough leave - Its just trying to re-arrange some jobs so I can get enough time off. That trip was great but too short!

The fukers came out yesterday morning just as I was packing the car. Like a knob I had no stuff on and gave them a right tasty breakfast.

Heading off into the hills today so bound to have a run in with the wee fuckers at some point

Finn Larden got his cast on a bit better yesterday

Midge free on the east coast.

Just dipped my sedgehog in Loch Buidhe for an hour and watched the Ospreys and a Roe deer with fold.

The fish are so different over here.

Good fighting big tail snappers. Lost a decent fish through my own negligence but that's how you learn I suppose :)

Off up Loch Hope tomorrow where I caught a beauty 3 years ago.

I'll take the skin so soft just in case :D

Only one brief but quite fearsome burst of midgies last night.

Right at the end of a day that started in a windy downpour that gave way to a bright afternoon and a lovely evening

I'd been fishing a nice sheltered Loch since late afternoon with no midgies but when I took the boat back, that's when they struck.

Got out of there fast!

Which Loch?

So far, I've fished Loch Veyatie and Cam, Loch Bad nan Aighean, Loch na Innse Fraoich and after yesterday, which was a hard day on the big lochs - I think I was pushing my luck/sore arm with a boat, I think I'll head back to the easy-access area and finish-up with a spell on the spinning beat on Loch Assynt - which could be embarrassing as apart from the odd mackerel day, I've not cast a spinner much for years!
