Veganism, new and old Vegans, info, support and recipes

It's a cheesy concept but as it was on sale for two for 85p I thought Id give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised by this burger

Marks & Spencer Launches Heart-Shaped Vegan Beet Burger For Valentine's Day

Lidl have two pre-made ‘salads’ that are vegan, a tomato pasta one and another which is orzo and sundried tomato (or was it rice, I can’t remember!)
They’re next to the hummus & olives in the fridge section.

What's the best non-dairy non-soy 'milk' to put in coffee? Just tried a coconut/rice one that tastes lovely on its own but disgusting in coffee.

I've been eating a lot of Oumph! lately. This is the new Swedish soya protein meat substitute. I normally avoid over processed vegan food, particularly if it impersonates meat but made an exception here. On the plus side, it's proteinous and tasty. On the minus side, it's quite rubbery (regardless of how long you cook it) and somehow makes my farts smell of burning rubber the following day.

Tesco sell Oumph! as do Holland & Barrett, who have their 'buy one get one half price' offer on at the moment. You'll find it in the frozen section.

It’s a source of iron and folic acid, too, which Quorn, for example, isn’t. So I was interested when this finally reaches the Stirling area.

(I haven’t tried it yet, but the burning rubber farts isn’t selling it to me!)

Well worth a punt and much better than Quorn in my book. Works out a £2.80 or thereabouts for a 280g bag with the Holland & Barrett offer. Don't be put off by the farting - probably just me and my strange innards.

I don’t use it in tea or coffee, because I take those black, but I find oat milk my favourite for cereals and so on. My elder daughter takes it in her tea, and seems to get on fine.

I've come home pissed and hungry and have to say making toast with vegan butter and vegan ham and cheese is every bit as satisfying as what I used to eat.

I had that the other day, the kebab spiced one. I think I over cooked it as it was hard in parts. None the less it was very tasty.
Can't confirm or deny the rubbery farts though :hmm:

1ADEF562-E917-4564-B447-00043E5FDAB3.jpeg Vegan butter that actually tastes good. Dunno if this has already been posted. My son’s been vegan for years so I always aim to have bits and bobs in that he can eat if he turns up.
Found this in sainsbs the other day and it really is good. Easily as nice as buttery style margarines and, on toasted hot cross bun, indistinguishable from butter.
(Not quite the same spread cold onto fresh bread, but still perfectly palatable.) Huge hit here.
