TV series recommendations general (excluding Netflix/ Amazon)

Just binged The IPCRESS File on ITV - I saw it on Britbox but i think you can get it with adverts on the ITV hub. Brilliant writing, cracking plot and beautiful to look at.

I'm in agreement! Absolutely loved it! I don't usually enjoy espionage stuff but yes beautiful to look at.

I think it made me feel like I did when I was a kid in the 70s watching the persuaders (I had a massive crush on Tony Curtis)

Smiling Friends
More 4

I actually laughed out loud. Not normal for me.

I watched about three and a half minutes of it, didn't find it remotely amusing even, let alone laugh out loud funny. Some bits were disturbing, some revolting, some just meh/nothing/what is this/what's the point. It was just very disjointed and weird.

Diff' rent Strokes.
The B story (which later connects to the A) in episode was the first thing that grabbed me. Lots of little things going on (like what's on TV etc). I don't like everything about it (The Mike Stoklasa cameo character in ep 1 I absolutely hate). The opening of episode two made me fall off my chair (well it would have if I had chairs).
Did you watch the show or just the clips in the you tube? It's not disjointed. . . weird yes.

Julia. A new eight-part series on the life of Julia Child. The first four episodes have just dropped on Sky/ NowTV, and so far I think it’s bloody brilliant. Superb performances, witty and well told :)

Bugger, I don't have Sky/Now, will have to find some other way of watching it.

Not sure anything can top Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia mind you, but I definitely want to see this!

She's superb in it. As the Guardian article says, she makes her own performance of the character a distinct one from Streep's, yet a faithful one to the real Julia Child. She's going to get a few gongs for this, and rightly so.

Aye, well I like Sarah Lancashire in other things, she tends to deliver :) Looking forward to getting to see this!

Not series, not sure where else to put this though...

Starting at 1pm today (Saturday), the Horror Channel is having an afternoon of classic '50s sci-fi/horror flicks... just thought I'd mention it as I know that may well appeal to some :)

Well the classic sci-fi weekend on Horror got off to a great start yesterday, I particularly enjoyed Tarantula!

Another session of classic '50s sci-fi/horror movies starts today (Sunday) at 1pm.

The bill is as follows:

13:00 The Mole People
14:30 20 Million Miles to Earth
16:05 The Deadly Mantis
17:40 The Monolith Monsters
19:15 The Blob (1958).

Or you can sit and watch vaguely religious Easter stuff on other channels :D

i haven't seen it, but i've read a bit about child and she was a trip, fascinating life, this is deserved.

20 Million Miles to Earth is fucking delivering, I just wish I had drugs - stop motion giant reptile (with sound effects that sound like they are done by someone going AAAARRRGGGHHH into a tin can) fight with an elephant, this is just what Easter TV needs.

Are series on Torrent sites allowed?

I think this thread is probably a good place for any discussion/recommendations about series or films that don't fit naturally anywhere else but where you don't have enough to say about them or think that it would generate sufficient discussion to warrant a thread of its own.

I mean my last few posts have been about films on a freeview channel, I hope the OP doesn't mind that, but it just seems a good place to mention the things that don't really fit in other threads!

The First Lady - historical drama series about three First Ladies: Obama (Viola Davis), Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson) and Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer).

Looks good. Not sure how it all ties together because I haven't finished downloading it yet.

Most welcome, anything recommendations /reviews that aren't based on the desperation of posters trying to find something half decent on Amazon or Netflix after watching the promoted stuff is fine by me.

Watched this yesterday and loved it! It's absolutely charming. Can't wait for all the episodes to be available.

We've got a free trial of Apple+TV and I'm really enjoying spy drama Slow Horses. Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas are both equally superb.

You must absolutely watch Ted Lasso as well. It’s the best feel good comedy of recent years. My OH fates football and she loves this even more than I.
