TV series recommendations general (excluding Netflix/ Amazon)

One last recommendation - Stonehouse. He's played by Matthew Macfadyen, who is an excellent actor in everything I've seen him in.

I don't believe in ‘guilty pleasures’ but if I did probably my most inexplicable comfort watch would be the docudrama about the Hungerford Massacre that Macfadyen narrates, because he reflects the horror so well whilst also making me feel safe

We’ve started on From. Undemanding schlock horror. Three seasons to go and looks perfectly bingeable.
Just started that off the back of its mad RT score. I'm not a big fan of horror serieses (I'm trying to relax here) but the first few episodes are intriguing enough to keep going. Shonky script/acting in places. The guardian review of episode 1 from when it was first screened is pretty funny if you've watched it.

Yeah, can’t argue with any of that.

Edit: Sweet FA what is an RT score? RT as in Russia Today? Is there a show where George Galloway and Rory Suchet discuss every plot twist?

I was going to but was put of by all the terrible reviews.
Too much filler.
Plot moves too slowly.
Too many plot holes.

I don't want to watch Lost again.

When did the TV recommendations thread become a thinly disguised relationship counselling one?

Anyway, back on topic, I’m quite annoyed that Mrs Loom nixed Shogun as “boring” when she was looking at Facebook Reels of huge joints of meat being sliced on her phone instead of paying attention to the subtitles on the big screen. I really want to watch the rest of it, but I’m effectively limited to an hour of TV drama per day.
Yes, you should definitely watch Shogun in that one hour per day.

My wife just watched Lost again. All the way through. It might be me who bails if it’s as bad as you say. Certainly hope there aren’t any character development flashbacks.

Nah, keep watching. You can tell me if it is worth the effort.
If not you'll have saved me several hours.

S2 of Everybody Else Burns is reasonably funny though not a classic. Watchable though. Can’t remember much of S1 so couldn’t say whether is better or worse. On Channel 4/ All4 app.

Finished Chernobyl and would definitely recommend. Feels in places like some of those classic 80s dramas like Edge of Darkness and Threads but more horrifying because it's a real story.

To lighten up the mood, we've just started The White Lotus. Not entirely gripped yet... We'll see.

the Harris fella coming out of his fathers shadow with the series similar with the terror
He's great isn't he?
I could watch him recite the phone book.
If I see him in the cast of something, it immediately makes me more likely to watch it.

Has anyone seen the somewhat brilliant advert for Generation Z that is coming to C4 soon?

I've failed to get into a lot of the more serious zombie dramas over the last decade or two, but this might be worth a look.
I must have missed the press notices for this, as it’s out now (came out a couple of weeks ago I think) and it’s written and directed by Ben Wheatley!
Shocked I didn’t know this!
(I also found out that he was also involved with a tv series about a rocket scientist in LA in the 40s who also happens to be an Aleister Crowley acolyte. Pickman's model, are you aware of this show? It’s called Strange Angel and it came out in 2019. I don’t suppose ITV picked it up.

Has anyone been watching Generation Z then? I've seen the first couple of episodes and am quite enjoying it. Wasn't sure if the talking old people zombies would work, but so far, so good, probably better than a Walking Dead spin-off anyway. :)

Gave up on the first episode 30 minutes in. The premise is good but we found the scripting and direction just utterly boring. In that time, all it had done was introduce loads of zero-dimensional characters with no reason to care about them, all in incredibly short scenes that didn’t go anywhere. Yawn, sadly.

If you want to see him in something with more of a leading role, I would recommend 1998's B. Monkey (though not many would)

I wasn’t convinced for much of the first episode but then started to get into it. Finished the second episode now and will probably stick with it. Many flaws but it does have some amusing bits.

Kinda take this back. After ep 3, not sure if I can be arsed continuing - while actually now enjoying the Maggie/Negan Walking Dead spin-off. :D

We actually finished it last night. Farcical even for a horror comedy, and it’s difficult to give a fuck for any of the characters. Not the most terrible thing ever but as a six-episode product it requires commitment. The gratuitous gore was entertaining though.

That’s what we’d identified after 10 minutes. And we thought we were the suckers for sticking it out for another 20!

The new take on The Day of The Jackal is astoundingly good.

Fans of the original will recognise elements of it, but it's fresh and immediately addictive. I binged 4 of the first 5 episodes on Friday and yesterday and probably would have gone on if I hadn't realised that Sky have decided not to release the whole series but to drop the remaining 5 episodes once a week on Thursdays, which is seriously annoying. If I'd known that, I'd have waited until it was all out.
