Toshack quits Wales job

He has only managed U21's and Div 3 football tho, granted many of his U21's are now in the senior squad, but it will be a hell of step up for him.

Given the way Wales have played under Toshack, that's highly debatable. On the radio, Robbie S came out with a complete list of teams beaten in Toshack's six years. It is a short, undistinguished list.

Shame about Toshack. I have had a soft spot for him ever since his glory days at Swansea.

Toshack has proved to be a crap manager. I'm with Robbie Savage on this. He made zero progress with Wales. No where near qualification as they experienced with Hughes.

Rubbish manager for Wales.

more experience in management than Giggs

Granted, but I think Giggs bring something else to the party and there isn't a player in the squad who wouldnt look up to him, and he must have learnt something about management from siralex.

Bellamy player/manager!! He might as well complete his quailfication for canonisation.

Granted but his u21 record alone - given that the u21's hadn't won for about 3 years when he took over and are now consistently excellent - should go a long way. Flynnie was a great giant-beater too remember.

Plus he's dead short, which always amuses me when he's stood pitch side.

so has toshack actually gone then? the last article i read said he's only offered to step down if they want him to.

I really can't see past Flynn, even if only as a caretaker candidate for the rest of the 2012 qualifying campaign. Judge him by results at the end of that. I'd hate for Flynn to take the senior job and then be hounded out in eighteen months time after losing 2-4 at home to Moldova, and therefore be lost to the under-21s as well, where he's been outstanding.

Wales will always have a thin squad but a guy like Flynn is exactly the kind of character to get the most out of those limited resources. I liked Toshack too, but he was always going to be damned by his outspoken career as a media pundit before he took the job. Wales looked very shaky defensively on Friday, though, and sat far, far too deep, even after going behind, and that was extremely disappointing.

If it's a short list Flynn must be favourite, the Wales subbuteo team are taller than him. And he scored at NP v Brazil with a header what a legend

Proper Tidy, actually did the u21s actually go something like 6 years without a win under shoulder? We were proper shit.

Giggs, nah, he doesn't need or want the hassle does he.

Toshack, results are just shocking and he just comes across as SMUG, and out of date Real Madrid blah blah, "the mentality of the Yugoslavs" oh do just fuck off it's embarassing

But Jackett has already ruled himself out, no?

Tosh's press conference made me ill, smug, arrogant, self-seeking bastard he was to the end. Fuck off, man

Didn't see it, but that's a sad end if true. He's just lost it, hasn't he? He did wonders with Swansea and Sociedad. But that was a long time ago.

the vibe on sports wales was that was that Flynn is likely to be caretaker for the next two games at the very least
