Titanic tourist sub missing

Ocean Gate-gate has been top kwality news to be fair. We've got a homemade sub full of mostly loathsome people fiddling with an Xbox controller while they slowly asphyxiate, a massive but futile SAR operation and the wreck of the Titanic. It's got everything.

That’s really insensitive.

What about those of us who like car chases and young attractive people removing their clothes ‘for important character development’ . Also no cute dog.

There are going to be so many shit plays written about this, just another reason to hope that when the thing’s found it’ll be clear they imploded or whatever ages ago, so that the plays are short.

They'll keep searching for at least another day I reckon. No-one wants to be the one to go on TV and say "OK we've done our best but there is no hope now so we are going to pack up and get on with our lives"
only to have somebody find a sub full of corpses in a week and realise that the search was called off a couple of hours too early.

The laws of salvage require the vessel to be completely abandoned or the crew all dead.

So you'd want to leave it until the O2 was definitely gone before snagging the billionaire treasures. Priceless Rolexes, diamond pins etc.

Pity Lloyd Bridges passed away, he would have been ideal.

there ought to be a wetherspoons ship which would offer people like you the chance to sail to the site of a maritime disaster and pontificate with a pint to your heart's content.
There probably is, My sister's husband has been on a few fishing trips out to sea and assures me that drinking beer is at least on a par with catching fish as an objective.

All that stuff will have been left on the mothership, The crew of which will have no doubt called dibs on it by now.

Just to state the obvious, OceanGate are clearly an utterly cavalier outfit. Most of us on here realised it as quickly as this disaster unfolded, not because we have any particularly expert engineering insights, but because we have some understanding of how freemarkets operate. Recklessness in pursuit of 'innovation' and the great god profit aint a new thing, but this sub appears to have been a lash up from the start, constructed from materials which were probably unsuitable and thrown together without proper consideration of the extraordinary pressures water at depth places upon objects that are somewhat irregular in shape. Spherical bathyspheres are spherical for a reason - they are less likely to implode than any other shape. a cigar tube with a flat end made from dubious stuff was never a great idea unless you regarded it firstly as a generator of dollars. Had the safety of passengers been paramount a very different vessel would have been used, and would have been rigorously tested over a long period. But as they say, and as we are frequently reminded 'you pays your money and you take your choice'..
