After reading that she give her prescription pill out to friends and Family who fall I'll which is quite Frankly Dangerous, illegal and Stupid I thought I start a thread that it was time she quit or be sacked for those comments and also what she said about nurses not deserving a pay rise

she did what?

I think i hate her the most TBH. It’s the fact she obviously doesn’t give a shit about appearing ‘nice’ She’s like Millwall FC. ‘You don’t like me? I don’t care and I’m ending your free healthcare’. So much hate in her. Some people just want to see the world burn.

Okay, I'm not sure the meds thing is actually true, but some excellent twitter naughtiness :D edit: no it is true. Fucking hell

Given how shit GPs are at not handing out antibiotics, I'm surprised people think so badly of pharmacists that they could possibly do a wosrse job by handing them out more readily.

Pharmacists who have done some extra training and can assess patients are entirely suitable to prescribe antibiotics, as are many other HCPs who do a prescribing course. Having other places that patients can access primary care services is a good thing, and has been happening for ages anyway, there were loads of pharmacists on my prescribing course. I'd want to see more details before flipping out and thinking this is a terrible idea. There is also sometimes a tinge of job protectionism from some doctors in this area ime.

(Speaking as a non-doctor prescriber.)

Yeah, this bit is already happening. AHPs prescribing is a very good thing. Coffey has undermined it. I'm glad she thought sepsis I guess, but FFS not like that.

Haven't seen the article/news bit on her giving antibiotics to friend/family, so no idea what happened. Can't say I'd be very bothered tbh, some of those Twitter threads on it are a bit bonkers I think.

I was told that there are different types of antibiotic to address different health problems and some are very specific. Antibiotics for e.g. tooth infection are very different to antibiotics for severe lung infection if you have asthma, say. Surely someone untrained giving a useless antibiotic for lung infection might mean the patient doesn't go to see a doctor?

As it has been pointed out, it may it not be illegal but it is certainly reckless from a supposed 'health' minister.
