The sounds and smells of Summer.

EXPLODED TIM! (Help me!!!)
I am at home and can hear a pair of shears snapping away in a nearby garden, which a quintessential summer sound. If I think of summer smells, it is the odour of softening tarmac. I think it's time for us to get Adelstroppy

Adlestrop
BY EDWARD THOMAS
Yes. I remember Adlestrop—
The name, because one afternoon
Of heat the express-train drew up there
Unwontedly. It was late June.

The steam hissed. Someone cleared his throat.
No one left and no one came
On the bare platform. What I saw
Was Adlestrop—only the name

And willows, willow-herb, and grass,
And meadowsweet, and haycocks dry,
No whit less still and lonely fair
Than the high cloudlets in the sky.

And for that minute a blackbird sang
Close by, and round him, mistier,
Farther and farther, all the birds
Of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

For me the most wonderful summer sound and smell is that of the beach. The smell of sardines being cooked on swords in front of wood fires, the waves lapping gently at the shore... The smells from the chiringuitos...The hum of the cicadas in the bushes...

Andalucía beaches are what summer is for.

this year along the coast of England it is the sights sounds and smells of people standing on hidden shit landmines on sandy beaches

Adlestroppy refers to that condition where you've had so much to drink you're clearly drunk but when you insist against all reason that you're not.

Right now, the smell of privet and honeysuckle.
They remind me of nearing the end of term, out on bikes exploring after school. Sometimes better than summer holidays as there was a huge amount of anticipation. And girls, still.

I think I caught a lime tree the other day too.

Here in Portugal. the smell of sardines and barbecues , jasmin, and orange. Sounds of cicadas, Brazilian/Portuguese samba music, the clink of beer bottles, and the groans of Benfica supporters now realising that they wont win the league.

I only really learnt the scent of lime tree last year but have been sniffing for it. Looking back on my photos I think I’ve a couple of weeks to go here.

Eu sou sempre os dragões

When I lived in Porto one of my students planned a big party, cakes, champagne etc, at his beach housr, to celebrate Benfica winning the game that would make them champions. They lost. He cancelled the party and went to bed for three days. :D

The central line at 5pm on the hottest day of the year at rush hour, tube walls running with moisture from the sweat
